Filipina Soul

Fruits

by Maricar on March 13th, 2007

Mangoes, sweet mangoes! They’re everywhere, and yes, I’m having my taste buds pampered with their delectable sweetness.

I’ve also had guyabano (sour sop), small local bananas, green mangoes, star apple (which we had to search for).

I don’t know where I can get young coconut right off the tree, but that’s definitely something I don’t want to miss.

What fruit are you craving for now? Let me know, and I’ll eat some for you! ;)

Green mangoes! I’m pregnant and I’m craving Philippine green mangoes, of which I haven’t found here in my part of the US yet (Cape Cod). I am definitely salivating now, and to think we have three giant mango trees back home. Life can be cruel sometimes!

I would love to get my hands on some atis too. mmm mmm mmm YUM!

I definitely had green mangoes. Yikes, it makes my mouth water just remembering. I gave some to my 3-year-old, thought he wouldn’t like the sourness of it. But he asked for more! Pinoy talaga! :)

Shai, I didn’t see any duhat. There were some lanzones but it wasn’t in season so I didn’t try any. Neither were rambutan.

Maria, I don’t think I saw any atis. It was pretty much mangoes and bananas in abundance.

Do you guys know the season for these fruits? Lanzones I believe come in September. But I just remember that from my trip in 2003 when I had my fill of them in San Pablo, Laguna.
