Havaianas plays back classic Filipino childhood games

havaianas-flipflop Do you remember playing piko, patintero, luksong-tinik, tumbang preso and Chinese garter? These are some of the favorite street games that my neighborhood and classmates used to play. We used to play out on the middle of the streets every chance we get. AND no one wore tennis shoes. Nope, in the Philippines people wear flip flops. Unfortunately, I think children of the video-game age today have forgotten these very physical and fun outdoor games.

So what does the most popular flip flop store do? Havaianas Philippines sponsors a Playback! Very cleverly done too, reading from Noemi’s blog, how Havaianas laid out an entire park of street games. Check out the pictures from Shopping Finds. I hope this isn’t a one-time event though, since we need more outdoor games like these. Little Juan has had too much TV and video games for his own good.
