Jumong

Jumong fans, I’m sure most of you already know what happened but here’s the summary of Episode 61:

***
King Geumwa is appalled to read Yoohwa’s farewell letter, and a furious Geumwa demands Songju to send out guards to capture Yoohwa and Yesoya no matter what. Thus as Yoohwa, Yesoya , Yuri and their maid flee by foot throughout dawn to dusk, Naro and Songju along with their guards follow their trails. Yesoya is exhausted from carrying Yuri and Yoohwa takes Yuri over telling Yesoya they have a long ways to go before their reach their destination. Just then Yoohwa’s maid notices the guards passing by and the foursome hide as the guards search the area. Naro tells Songju they must be headed toward Jolbon thus they should just head to the border cross first before the women reach there. In Buyeo palace the queen finds out what happened and tells Daeso they should’ve killed Yoohwa and Yesoya a long time ago, and Daeso says they needed to keep them in order to prevent Ju Mong from attacking Buyeo, and the queen is dismayed that they have to do so, and tells Daeso he should regin Buyeo before it is too late.

Yoohwa and Yesoya arrive by border gate and realize it is heavily guarded thus they begin searching for another border entry to see if it is less guarded. However the other gate is just as heavily guarded and Yoohwa says they must wait til night time. As they duck to hide, Yoohwa notices Master Cheon passing by with his group and Yoohwa runs to him for help. Master Cheon is surprised to see Yoohwa and Yoohwa tells him they fled the Buyeo palace to meet Ju Mong, and Yoohwa asks Master Cheon to help as the borders are heavily guarded. Next, Master Cheon hides Yuri in the grain wagon as they cross Gook-geon border. Yesoya tells the young Yuri it will just be a short while thus he neen’t be afraid and the group attempts to pass through, but they are stopped by the gate warrior who asks Master Cheon why he’s returning to Jolbon when he crossed over to Buyeo not long ago, and Master Cheon replies he had a reason to return to Jolbon and the warriors then asks if he met any known women in Buyeo, and Master Cheon stays calm and asks who they are looking for. The guard warrior replies they have been instructed to be on the look out for 3 women with a young child who might leave Buyeo, and the guard tells Master Cheon to report it right away if he comes across them. Master Cheon agrees and the warrior lets him pass through; however Naro and Songju rush there telling the group to halt. Naro asks the warrior where Cheon’s group is headed, and the guard replies they are merchants going toward Jolbon. Naro begins stabbing the salt bundles with his sword as Yesoya and Yoohwa cringe. Yoohwa yells out to stop and steps forward. Naro orders the rest of the sacks to be removed from the wagon, and a frightened Yuri is revealed, shaking from fear. Naro smiles as Yesoya and Yoohwa weep silently. The foursome are returned to Buyeo palace, and Yeongpo becomes nervous when he sees Master Cheon among the captured. Songju tells Geumwa the women were about to cross the border when they were discovered. Geumwa stares at Master Cheon who speaks up and says the women begged him by the border to help thus he did so, and an angry Geumwa yells if one would really risk his life to help strangers, and accuses Master Cheon of Ju Mong’s accomplice. Yoohwa speaks up and says Master Cheon is indeed a stranger whom they begged for help and Geumwa orders his men to beat Master Cheon until he confesses, and to throw Yesoya and Yoohwa under house arrest. Geumwa leaves after giving this order, and as Yesoya is dragged away, Yang Seolran approaches her and slaps her violently for causing the disrest inside the palace. Soya replies she was merely going the path she should go on, and Seolran replies her path is but to die as hostage in Buyeo, and orders the men to take Soya away right away. Yoohwa then visits Geumwa in his chamber and Geumwa solemly tells Yoohwa he already told her he would send Yesoya and Yuri to Ju Mong when the right time comes, and asks Yoohwa why she has changed so much as to not trust him, but Yoohwa remains standing and tells Geumwa the one who has changed is Geumwa. Next, Geumwa asks her what he is to do but to hold Soya and Yuri as hostage when he has already been warned that Ju Mong would destroy Buyeo, and Yoohwa tells Geumwa Ju Mong has no intention to destroy Buyeo, rather he is merely trying to help the people of old Joseon, and that if Buyeo joined hands with Ju Mong they could together defeat the Han nation, but Geumwa appears tormented as he states that is the same as bringing Buyeo to ruin and he then stands up to face her, and asks her to kill him instead if she would really rather leave him, and Yoohwa asks Geumwa to kill her, and upon killing her to send Yesoya and Yuri. At this Geumwa is speechless and tears, as Yoohwa remains stern. Meanwhile, Naro continues to torture Master Cheon who continues to deny any connection with Ju Mong. Naro continues to torture him violently when Yeongpo watches from distance and wonders what will happen if Master Cheon reveals the truth about the missing records from old Joseon era. Majin says they should go to Han nation at first and when Yeongpo brushes that idea away, Majin says they needn’t worry since everything will be over when Cheon dies. Yeongpo agrees and tells Majin to go and kill Cheon. Thus, Majin and Yeongpo approach them and Yeongpo tells Naro Majin is experienced with tortures and suggests Naro to let Majin try. Majin shakingly asks Cheon to confess his crime of affiliation with Ju Mong and swings a bat on master Cheon’s face, killing Master Cheon to Naro’s dismay.

Meanwhile in Gyeru, Jaesa’s messenger returns from his trip and tells Jaesa the roads leading to Jolbon are all heavily guarded by warriors. Jaesa asks about Buyeo’s state and is told something has happened to Yoohwa and Yesoya.
Ju Mong is discussing his plans with the Oh-ma-hyeop trio when Jaesa arrives with news of Yoohwa and Yesoya being caught after their attempt to flee Buyeo failed. Ju Mong is surprised by this news and distresses over the matter at night alone in his room, as the trios are waiting outside furious and upset over the matter. Hyeopo says if only they had notified them beforehand they could’ve met them by the outside the palace to help them, and Ohyi wonders if they should attack Buyeo instead of Songyang first. Just then Soseono and Sayong arrive to meet with Ju Mong and are told this isn’t a good time to discuss any matter with Ju Mong, and hyeopbo explains what happened with Yesoya and Yoohwa. As Ju Mong mourns alone, Soseono watches him from afar and feels her heart ache for him. Meanwhile, in Buyeo palace, Yesoya and Yoohwa each remain in their chamber awake at night in anguish.

Next day, Daeso visits Jolbon’s Songyang and tells Songyang he is here on king Geumwa’s order. Daeso tells Songyang he plans to attack Gyeru and Songyang says in that case Jolbon will never forget Daeso’s help. Daeso says in return, Biryu is to send 300 units of offering to Buyeo, but Songyang apologizes and says he cannot agree to such request since they are already short themselves and are suffering not having enough to feed their own. Daeso is angry and states in that case they cannot help Jolbon and Daeso leaves. Back in Buyeo, prime minister Budeukbul is dressed as a common man and watches as he sees men telling one another they should leave Buyeo and go to Gyeru since Gyeru is a land of plenty now that Ju Mong is there and they will not go hungry if they go there. Budeukbul reports this to Geumwa in court, and Jaeboo minister says they are losing many citizens who are leaving for Gyeru each day and head General Heukchi states he has seen the same. Daeso returns from his trip and tells Geumwa the bad news that Songyang could not give them grain. Daeso goes out and watches as Naro brings in the men who tried to escape Buyeo to join Gyeru. Daeso mocks them asking how they can call themselves Buyeo people, and tells them he will kill them himself, but just as Daeso is about to slash them, King Geumwa arrives and stops Daeso. Daeso tells Geumwa the captured men have betrayed Buyeo and the king, and Geumwa tells the men to endure through the hardship, but the men weepingly state they too did not want to abandon their nation, but they only did so to survive. The men cryingly asks Geumwa to join hands with Ju Mong to save Buyeo, and Geumwa is furious and asks the men if they serve Ju Mong or Geumwa, and Geumwa tells Daeso to kill the men right away and to kill anyone who tries to escape Buyeo in the future immediately as well. Meanwhile, in Gyeru, Buyeo citizens arrive hungry and thirsty, and at the Gyeru gate, Mudeok brings food and water and Mopalmo and Musong help distribute them with the Buyeo refugees. Mopalmo asks the children where their parents are and the children reply they were killed at the border. Next, Mopalmo and Musong plea to save the many refugees from Buyeo before anything else, but Yeonchaeryeong says they cannot give away what belongs to the Gyeru citizens. Just then, Ju Mong tells Soryeong and the starchild that he is currently looking for a resolution without war, when Mopalmo and Musong come running telling Ju Mong Gyeru will not allow the food to be distributed to he Buyeo refugees and they ask Ju Mong to help. Ju Mong goes and talks to Soseono and Yeontabal saying the refugees have no where else to go, and Soseono says she understands their hardship but they cannot lose their savings when they still have to go to war with Songyang, and Yeontabal says both Ju Mong and Soseono have valid points. Ju Mong asks them to trust him and allow the food to be released, and both agree. As the food is distributed to the refugees, Ju Mong tells Yeontabal and Soseono he plans to unite Jolbon without war, and states he had heard that although Jolbon is a group of 5 small nations, they are like brothers sharing same blood, thus it is meaningless to set a new nation upon a land of sibling blood shed. Soseono says w/out attacking Songyang it would be difficult to unite Jolbon to build a new nation, and Ju Mong then talks to Yeontabal alone and asks him about each of the Jolbon tribes and their chieves. Yeontabal states among Gwan-na, Hwan-na and Yeon-na, the Gwan-na chief was the one who was in discord with Songyang for a long time but at last succumbed to Songyang when he had no choice, while the Hwan-na chief is one who has no big ambitions and just wants to peacefullly keep his tribe in status quo, and the Yeon-na chief is the one who is most loyal to Songyang.

Ju Mong thinks over his plans and leaves Gyeru with Soseono, the trios and a group of warriors. At night they break into Jolbon Gwan-na and captures the Gwan-na chief. Ju Mong tells the chief he knows he is only following Songyang’s will because he has no choice, and Ju Mong states even if Songyang gains power over Jolbon he is one who will hand over Jolbon to Han nation. Ju Mong tells the chief if he joins hands with him, he will help him keep his tribe intact. Ju Mong lowers himself next to the chief and asks him if he will build a new nation together. After daylight breaks, Ju Mong brings the Gwan-na chief out to the open fields outside of Hwan-na and gives him instructions on what to do. Gwan-na chief leaves, and Soseono asks Ju Mong if he thinks the chief will succeed and Ju Mong is confident. Next, Songyang’s subject rushes to tell him the Gwan-na and Hwan-na chieves gave their power over to Ju Mong and the Damul already without even a war. Moments later, Mari and Jaesa arrive in Biryu and meet with Songyang to tell him that commander Ju Mong does not want the Jolbon people to fight among themselves and what he wants is to revive the glory of the old Josen, and he wishes to do so together with Songyang, but Songyang scoffs the two and tells them to go back to Gyeru and tell Ju Mong that Songyang will not defeat to Damul and that he will surely attack and destroy them all.

Songyang goes to Hyeonto and tells Yangjeong what has happened and pleads with Yangjeong again asking for army. Yangjeong wonders why he would do so when Songyang can’t even keep his own group together, and Yangjeong worries over the decision with his advisors while Songyang waits. yangjeong’s minister tells Yangjeong Songyang is not one who will easily succumb to Damul thus they shouldn’t worry, and the minister goes to tell the awaiting Songyang they cannot dispatch anymore army to him thus Songyang should return home. Songyang returns to Biryu, and sends a messenger to Ju Mong to meet alone with Songyang. Soseono and the trios advise Ju Mong not to go since Songyang cannot be trusted, but Ju Mong tells his subjects the citizens of Biryu are people they should embrace as well, and that his teacher Haemosu has taught him the lesson that one cannot accomplish grand will if they cannot even protect the ones near him, and tells them they cannot build their nation upon the blood of many brothers, and states if his will is the same as the heaven’s then the heaven will not abandon them. At this Ju Mong announces he will go alone to meet Songyang.
