Soseono and Sayong aboard pirate lord Buwuiyeom’s ship to go south in search of grains for Jolbon, while Daeso arrives near Biryu to meet with Songyang. Ju Mong returns to Gyeru from his trip to Eup-ru, and Ju Mong tells Yeontabal they were successful in soliciting Buwuiyeom’s help, and chief Soseono is on her way to the south aboard their ship. Yeontabal says it is a good thing that things are happening according to their plan, but comments the situation in Jolbon is bad, with many rumoring about Ju Mong’s death, and predicting that Buyeo will soon attack Jolbon. Yeontabal says the crisis is serious and asks Ju Mong what to do. Yeonchaeryeong finds out Songyang met with Daeso, and Yangtak says they should kill Songyang, but Ju Mong arrives and says Songyang is not to be blamed. Yeonchaeryeong asks why, and Ju Mong says he is naturally concerned for Jolbon and that he will clear the issue. Mari says Ju Mong should show that he is alive to undo the disarray in Jolbon. Jaesa agrees and says the people of Jolbon are more worried that Ju Mong is dead than anything else. The other trios all agree and urge Ju Mong to show himself before the people.
Daeso returns to Buyeo and reports the meeting with Songyang went well and Buyeo palace just needs to attack Gyeru, and the rest of the chiefs will follow Songyang, thus Buyeo only needs to defeat Gyeru in order to gain control of Jolbon. The queen’s brother says that is an easy feat then, but Daeso says it is not so light since Damul army is strong. Daeso then asks Heukchi about the war preparations and Heukchi says they are almost ready, and Naro then reports the material needs from Hyeonto will arrive in a few days, thus Daeso tells everyone they will attack once the goods from Hyeonto arrive. Bubunno is ordered to prepare his army and Bubunno agrees. Meanwhile, a frantic Soya goes to Yoohwa and reports that Yuri was taken away by Seolran. Yoohwa is shocked and Soya asks what they can do. Seolran tells the young Yuri to think of her as mother from now on and that she will raise him like her own. Seolran then tells her maid to take Yuri away, and afterwards Haochen asks Seolran what her plans are and Seolran says now that Ju Mong is dead, Yesoya and Yoohwa will soon be killed too, thus she will raise Yuri. Haochen says Geumwa raised a son not of his blood and he became an enemy thus it is not a good idea, but Seolran replies he needn’t worry since it seems it will be difficult for her to have her own children thus she will raise Yuri well to undo her sufferings in the heart. Yuri is sent back to Soya who hugs him and cries, kissing and holding him. Next, Bubunno goes to Yoohwa’s chamber and finds out from the guard that Soya is visiting her and that even though the king asked for house-arrest he is allowing Soya to visit Yoohwa. Bubunno pretends to be upset and says he will go inside and scold Soya. Meanwhile, inside Yoohwa’s chamber, Soya tells Yoohwa that Seolran wanted to raise Yuri like her own, and Yoohwa comments Seolran is a pitiful woman from a woman’s stance and that no matter how evil she is she will not steal Yuri away from Soya as long as Soya is alive, thus Soya should not worry. Just then Bubunno arrives and tells Yoohwa things have gotten urgent as Daeso will soon attack Jolbon, and this attack will be joined by Han force. Bubunno tells Yoohwa and Soya to prepare themselves as he will help them escape soon. Meanwhile Yeongpo returns from his trip and greets King Geumwa, and introduces royal minister Hwang from Chang-ahn City. Geumwa asks Hwang how they will help Buyeo, and Hwang says the Han imperial has allowed goods and army to send to Buyeo for help, and Geumwa says he already knows these things. Hwang then says he is here to supervise the war, and Geumwa asks Hwang if he is saying Buyeo needs Han’s permission for everything and Hwang says the hans have that much right, but Geumwa gets furious and says the war will be fought by Buyeo blood thus it is nonsense that Han with a little material goods think they can control Buyeo. Majin tells the king to calm down but the king continues and asks Hwang if Han will give Buyeo the control over Yeonna army, and Hwang says nothing. Geumwa says if Han is not willing to give Buyeo control over their war then they should just go back taking away their goods with them. Minister Hwang steps out and Yeongpo apologizes for Geumwa’s behavior, and Hwang says not to apologize as he had heard about Geumwa’s temper for a long time and now that he has witnessed with his own eyes he sees that Geumwa is really like a nation’s emperor, and tells Yeongpo not to worry as he will only supervise Hyeonto’s Yangjeong and leave Buyeo’s war alone.
At night, in Biryu, Ju Mong and the Oh-ma-hyeop trio sneak into Songyang’s sleeping chamber and Songyang suddenly awakes. Songyang asks Ju Mong why he didn’t tell him about his trip beforehand and Ju Mong says if he announces it then the spies will spread the news. Ju Mong asks what Daeso said during the meeting, and Songyang says he had no choice but to meet Daeso since everyone thought Ju Mong already died, and since Daeso promised he won’t destroy Jolbon as long as he cooperates. Ju Mong says he did well, and asks Songyang not to tell the other chiefs that he is still alive as this is the weakness they can use against their foes. Songyang agrees, and Ju Mong promises they will win in this war, and asks Songyang to trust him as Songyang nods. Meanwhile, in Buyeo, Daeso tells his advisors they should gather all the guarding soldiers from the borders to come and fight in the war, and Heukchi wonders if they need to be that extreme, but Daeso says they must and order Naro to pick out the best fighters among their force and to form a special force. Bubunno asks who will lead the force and Daeso says he himself will lead the special army. Daeso then tells Heukchi to head the rest of the army and follow them. Nearby Buyeo, the Jae-moo-mook trio are disguised as merchants and find out Hyeonto’s goods are soon arriving in Buyeo, and Jaesa says things are happening sooner than they expect, and the trio hurry and return to Gyeru. In the Buyeo palace, Yeongpo tells Daeso he wishes to fight in the war as well, but Daeso scoffs him and tells him to go spend time with minister Hwang instead. Daeso leaves and Yeongpo wonders if he and Daeso are really real brothers, but Majin wonders if perhaps it is better if Buyeo lose for Yeongpo’s sake, but Yeongpo scoffs Majin for thinking so selfish and takes off.
Jae-moo-mook returns to Gyeru and reports to Ju Mong Buyeo is getting material reinforcement from Hyeonto, as well as army force from Han nation, and even the border soldiers are summoned to join in and they wonder if they can really fight against such a powerful force. Just then in Buyeo, Bubunno tells Yoohwa and Soya that Daeso is leading a small force toward Gyeru, and Bubunno tells Yoohwa they should leave tonight, but Yoohwa tells Bubunno to go ahead by himself, since it is more urgent that Bubunno informs Ju Mong the news before anything else, as they can escape a later date. Bubunno feels frantic, but Soya persuades him telling him if Gyeru is ruined then they will really have no place to go, and asks Bubunno to hurry. Meanwhile, Daeso tells Naro to go and summon Bubunno, and Bubunno goes to Daeso. Daeso tells Bubunno there’s an important task for him, and Daeso orders Bubunno to bring with him a small group first to map out the route for Daeso’s special force to follow, and to find out everything about the situation there. Bubunno then leads his small group of men and off they go toward Gyeru. Ju Mong and his men are going over their defensive war strategies, and Jaesa wonders if they should use the same strategy they used last time, but Ju Mong says Daeso will already be prepared for that thus they should go a different route and tells his men to watch for movements. Just then Bubunno arrives outside Jolbon, and he kills the few men he has with him, and he goes to Gyeru alone. Once arrived in Gyeru, Bubunno meets up with Ju Mong and Ju Mong asks Bubunno if he was able to save his family, and Bubunno says yes. Bubunno then says he should’ve brought Yesoya and Yoohwa with him but due to the urgent matter he came alone first. Mari asks what about and Bubunno says Daeso will soon attack Gyeru with a special force, and that the special force is about 200 men of superior fighting skills. Mari and Jaesa think this is their chance, and Ju Mong asks Bubunno to meet with Daeso as planned and to pull the special army toward Biryu. Ju Mong then tells Jaesa and Mari to prepare their army as well. Next, Hyeopbo goes to Mopalmo and asks him for the metal vest he made previously. Hyeopbo asks Mopalmo if he can wear it, and Mopalmo agrees to it. Hyeopbo laughs and says he is stronger than others and leaves with the vest. Hyeopbo shows up before Ju Mong wearing the heavy vest and Ju Mong asks him if it is difficult for him to move, but Hyeopbo says he is still alright. Ju Mong and the trios go to their army base and the armies are cheering for Ju Mong is still alive. Ju Mong tells the crowd he knows there were rumors about his death, but in order to avoid their enemy he could not show himself before them, but now it is time for them to fight the enemy, and the crowd cheers together.
Meanwhile, in Buyeo, Daeso and his generals bow before the holy shrine as they prepare to take off for war, and next, Daeso goes and bows before the queen as well. Daeso tells the queen he will leave now, and the queen nods telling him to come back safely after winning. Seolran also wishes him a safe return, and Daeso leaves, with the queen looking worried. Daeso and Naro arrived in the agreed upon location and Daeso orders his troop to rest while they wait for Bubunno to arrive. Next, Bubunno comes back alone, and reports he lost his men to the enemy. Daeso asks what the situation in Jolbon is, and Bubunno says Damul army is low in number. Bubunno then says the Damul army are at Ap-pu-ryeong, thus they should go by Biryu to attack them. Daeso orders Naro to prepare the army for departure, and thus Daeso’s special troop heads toward the trap in Ap-pu-ryeong Ju Mong and his men have prepared. Ohyi runs toward Ju Mong and reports Daeso’s men are approaching. Ju Mong orders Mari to prepare their group of army and explosives as they wait for Daeso to pass through. soon, Ju Mong’s group shoots fire balls with explosives toward Daeso’s men and Daeso’s men are falling one by one from the fire and bombs. Next, Ju Mong and his men attack by foot and swords, as Daeso orders the remaining army to fight. Hyeopbo’s metal vest comes in handy as the enemy cannot penetrate him, and Daeso who watches Bubunno kill Buyeo men goes toward Bubunno, but Ju Mong stops Daeso’s sword. Daeso and Ju Mong are faced off against each other and Daeso says Ju Mong has tricked him, while Ju Mong says Daeso fell into his own trap. Daeso and Ju Mong then fight against each other, but Naro arrives and tells Daeso to flee. Daeso is furious beyond measure and refuses to leave, but Naro drags him away and puts Daeso on horse to flee the scene. As Daeso leaves he exchanges a look of hatred with Ju Mong who is fighting the remaining Buyeo army. Daeso returns to Buyeo palace, and King Geumwa asks what happened. Daeso replies before they could attack Gyeru they were ambushed. Yangjeong is furious and asks why if Ju Mong is already dead and Gyeru is in turmoil, but Daeso replies Ju Mong is still alive. The gathered are startled, but Daeso says he will surely bring army towards Jolbon and he will surely kill Ju Mong thus asks Geumwa to allow him more army to leave immediately. Geumwa says Daeso should look after his wounded body first. Meanwhile Seolran brings Yuri to the queen and asks Yuri to greet the queen. The queen seems unhappy by it and Seolran tells the queen she wishes to raise Yuri, but the queen says she is unease by Yuri’s presence as Yuri resembles too much the deceased Ju Mong, but Seolran says once Daeso’s heir is born he will send Yuri away. Just then Yesoya arrives angry and pulls Yuri to her embrace and yelling at Seolran for her behavior in front of a child. Seolran scolds Soya’s rude behavior and orders men to come but the queen stops her and tells Soya she will let her go on the account she can relate to her heart as a mother but warns Soya not to repeat the same behavior again. Just then the maid comes and reports Daeso has returned. The queen asks how he could defeat Jolbon so fast but the maid says Ju Mong had been alive and Prince Daeso was ambushed by Ju Mong. Seolran asks if Ju Mong is really still alive and the maid replies yes. Seolran then looks at Soya and says she knew about Ju Mong being alive, and Seolran tells the queen Soya and Yoohwa are surely communicating with Ju Mong behind their back.
Daeso begs Geumwa to allow him to attack Ju Mong and Jolbon again with an army, but Geumwa says not to push it and they should rethink their strategy first. Yangjeong also agrees and tells Daeso though he understands Daeso’s feeling he agrees with Geumwa’s assessment. Daeso leaves and he is furious over Bubunno’s betrayal and asks Naro to go and find Bubunno’s family right away so he can kill them immediately. Naro says Bubunno already hid his family, and that not long ago there were some people who fled the border and he believes they were Ju Mong and his men. Daeso is furious why he didn’t’ report this earlier and Naro asks for death. Daeso tells Naro to go and find out what Ju Mong is scheming right away and Naro runs off with his servants. Yeongpo then arrives and asks Daeso if it’s true that Ju Mong is really alive and scolds Daeso for making such a fool of himself and tells Daeso his carelessness has brought great trouble for Buyeo. Daeso is furious and asks Yeongpo if he wants to die, and Yeongpo continues to scold Daeso, as Daeso slaps him violently. Daeso warns Yeongpo he is Buyeo’s crown prince and warns Yeongpo he will not survive if he pushes his buttons again and Daeso walks off.
Meanwhile in Jolbon, the citizens are shouting out hoorays as Ju Mong and the Damul army pass through, returning from their victory. The chiefs of Jolbon and Yeontabal welcome Ju Mong back and the chiefs ask for Ju Mong’s forgiveness for wavering their trust in him. Ju Mong replies the road to accomplish their grand will not be paved smoothly thus he understands the chief and nothing has changed for he will protect Jolbon no matter what, and asks the chiefs not to waver in the future. The gathered are impressed, and Yeontabal talks to Ju Mong next. Yeontabal is worried about their future and Songyang’s loyalty if they don’t solve their shortage crisis soon as they continue to be plagued by famine with the situation in Biryu and Gwanna especially worse. Ju Mong says he will go to Biryu now and asks the trios to go with him. Back in Buyeo, the king has summoned court, and the ministers report to Geumwa that the famine in Jolbon is dire and at this rate Jolbon will not survive itself.
Meanwhile Ju Mong and his men watch as many citizens die from starvation in Biryu and Gwanna and other parts of Jolbon, and Ju Mong returns to Gyeru, and his trios and Mopalmo lament the tragedy happening before them. Jaesa says it is past the time Soseono is due, and he worries if something has gone wrong. Ju Mong thinks over the crisis at hand and at night he continues to think alone as the rain pours over Jolbon. Ju Mong remembers the Shijo mountain oracle Bigeumseon’s words saying it is possible that Ju Mong could fail to accomplish the heaven’s will as Haemosu did, and how Ju Mong asked the oracle what the remaining holy objects were but Bigeumseon only said Ju Mong has to find these alone and that no one will open a road for him thus he will have to pave his own road despite the difficulties. Ju Mong remembers this just as oracle Soryeong arrives telling Ju Mong their suffering is because they fear that they are losing to Han and Buyeo, and Soryeong tells Ju Mong they have to overcome this with confidence. Ju Mong says the test upon Jolbon is the test the heavens have placed on him, and Ju Mong tells Soryeong he will put up a shrine to the heavens.
Next, rain turns into snow, and Ju Mong kneels before the shrine, as over in the distant sea Soseono is aboard the pirate ship looking over the snow upon them. Snow turns into rain again, and Ju Mong continues to kneel as he shivers. Five days have passed, and Ohyi asks Soryeong to stop Ju Mong from kneeling or else he will fall ill, but Soryeong says no one is to stop Ju Mong from his will. Ju Mong says a prayer to the gods, asking them to watch over Jolbon people. Ju Mong vows he will give up his life for the people of Jolbon, and asks the heavens to save Jolbon..to save Goguryeo..
