The Goguryeo iron factory is burning in flames as men frantically try to save the fire to no avail. Ju Mong rushes there and is told none of the blacksmiths survived the flames. Ju Mong asks if it means Yuri is still inside the fire, and Mopalmo nods saying yes. Ju Mong cries out Yuri’s name and is about to throw himself into the burning fire but he is stopped by his generals. Sayong brings the news to Soseono and she asks where the king is. Sayong replies he is still by the weapon factory and Soseono goes out toward it with Sayong following. When she arrives she sees the factory gone with only black ash and small flickers of flame remaining. Soseono looks at Ju Mong who has fallen to his knees in despair, and Soseono asks how it happened. Ju Mong ignores her and gathers himself up, but Mopalmo kneels before him and proclaims it is all his fault and asks to be killed. Ju Mong gathers small strength and asks Jaesa to take care of Yuri’s death, and at this Ju Mong drags himiself away as he shakes in despair. The gathered watch with tears, Soseono orders Ohyi to investigate and find out who was behind the event, and Ohyi agrees to her order. Ju Mong returns to his chamber and weeps alone after such shocking tragedy. Meanwhile, Ohyi and Mookgeo begin their investigation and when they realize the deceased outer guards have no knife wounds on them, Ohyi asks Mookgeo who he thinks it could be, and Mookgeo replies it is hard to determine as of now. Jaesa asks Musong to see if they can find Yuri’s body, and Musong replies the blacksmiths are burned to disfigured status thus it is hard to see who is who, and Moogol yells asking him to figure it out, but Musong yells back and says Moogol should go and figure it out in that case. Moogol shouts out his frustration and Mari scolds both for their indiscretion. However just then, Moogol watches as Prince Yuri comes out from the bushes with his sword on an assassin. The men rush to Yuri in shock, and Yuri looks at them with a smile. Hyeopbo rushes to King Ju Mong with the news and Ju Mong rushes out to the courtyard where Yuri stands. Ju Mong is in disbelief and touches Yuri’s face once and asks what happened. Yuri apologizes for causing king to worry and states when the fire broke out he saw the assassins flee so he ran after them and caught one man, and confirmed the assassins are from Han army unit.
In court, the king and Jaesa put the blame of the fire on Chansoo, who is the head minister of royal palace defense unit. Jaesa asks Ju Mong to punish Chansoo and Ju Mong orders Chansoo to be imprisoned, as Chansoo’s mother Yeonchaeryeong gasps. Mari then says they have to do something about letting everyone come into their nation’s border until they finish their war with Han nation in order to prevent assassins and spies from easily coming in and out, and Ju Mong agrees, and tells Mopalmo to search through the weapon factory and report any findings to him. Prince Ohnjo and Biryu watch as Chansoo is taken away, and Ohnjo asks Biryu what will happen to their uncle Chansoo, and Biryu says since they lost their entire factory and crew it will be hard for Chansoo to escape the blame. Ohnjo then says everyone in the palace is praising Prince Yuri right now saying if it hadn’t been him they wouldn’t have known who set the factory on fire. Just then Yuri arrives and the two are startled. Ohnjo greets Yuri as Yuri bows gently before them, and Biryu asks Yuri if he’s been hurt, and Yuri says he’s fine. Biryu says if something had happened to Yuri the king would’ve been devastated and tells Yuri he should act like a prince from now, and Yuri replies yes. Next, Yeonchaeryeong goes to see Queen Soseono and asks her to talk to the king to set Chansoo free, and Soseono becomes angry and states they are about to go to war and they have suffered the loss of their weapon factory and blacksmiths, and Chansoo is one who failed them, and he must be punished for his mistake. Yeonchaeryeong is surprised by Soseono’s rejection, and Soseono says even if it had been Biryu or Ohnjo she still couldn’t ask the king to forgive them, and orders Yeonchaeryeong to leave. Meanwhile, Mopalmo reports to the king and the head generals that their biggest problem is that they lost their experienced blacksmiths who have more than 10 years of experience in weapon making, and it is not possible for them to recover that in short time. Jaesa says that is exactly what the enemy had hoped, and Hyeopbo asks Mopalmo if he can work in the factory too to help making swords, and Mopalmo scoffs him saying not everyone can do such just because they want to. Ju Mong asks Mopalmo if it is possible to make swords they need if they borrow the blacksmiths from Buyeo, and Mopalmo replies it is. Ju Mong then order Jaesa and Mari to bring salt and medicines to Buyeo to ask bring back manpower. Ju Mong then tells Mopalmo to give the deceased blacksmiths a proper burial and to take care of their survivors.
Afterwards Jaesa confesses to Mari that he didn’t understand why the king wanted to build alliance with Buyeo to help Buyeo develop their weapon in the first place, but now he understands the king’s forethinking. Mari replies if King Daeso knows why they’re asking for blacksmiths then he would refuse the loan. At this Jaesa says they must hurry and go at once. In Yodong fort, the assassins return from their mission, and Governor Hwang finds out the Goguryeo blacksmiths were killed and the factory burned up. Governor Hwang laughs in satisfaction, and orders his general to award the assassins with 50 units of silk. Hwang then tells his ministers and generals they must use the opporunity to conquer Goguryeo to bring glory to the Han imperial. Yeongpo returns to Buyeo palace, and Daeso tells him to stop worrying their mother from now on. Yeongpo states he will give up all his riches to Buyeo for the king and for the nation, and Daeso says that was the agreed upon condition anyway and orders Yeongpo to leave. Yeongpo leaves looking angered. Next, Daeso asks Budeukbul how the meeting with Governor Hwang went and Budeukbul replies it went well as Daeso hoped. Daeso says he did great and states he will use Han and Goguryeo to Buyeo’s advantage, and orders Budeukbul to cultivate the ministers to follow their plan. Just then Naro comes in with news that Goguryeo envoys have arrived. Jaesa and Mari arrive in Buyeo court, and announce to King Daeso they have come to offer their alliance agreement as promised. Jaesa says King Ju Mong has sent medicine and salt to Buyeo, and Daeso says thanks. Daeso then asks about weapon development as promised, and Mari and Jaesa put on a fake worried look. Budeukbul asks if Goguryeo intends to forgo that promise, and Jaesa says if Buyeo sends blacksmiths to Goguryeo then they will keep the promise of training Buyeo blacksmiths. Daeso then orders his subject to send their experienced blacksmiths to Goguryeo with Mari and Jaesa, and afterwards, Jaesa and Mari laugh at successfully tricking Daeso, but Mari says they have to hurry and leave before they find out the truth.
Back in Goguryeo, Yeonchaeryeong visits her son Chansoo in the prison and Yeonchaeryeong complains they can’t sit still at such suffering, and Chansoo tells Yeonchaeryeong to calm down and sit still or else she will create bigger problems. Yeonchaeryeong says what has happened is proof that the king still doesn’t think highly of the Gyeru people, and Yeonchaeryeong swears she will do something about it. Yeonchaeryeong then goes and meets with Yangtak with her plan, and Yangtak says it is too dangerous and if something goes wrong then it is the end, but Yeonchaeryeong states even if they don’t do anything they will be ruined anyway and asks Yangtak what he will do. Meanwhile Jaesa and Mari return from Buyeo, and they have brought with them Buyeo minister and Naro, along with a group of experienced Buyeo blacksmiths who are in awe of the greatness of Goguryeo palace as they pass through. The minister and Naro arrive before King Ju Mong and ask about Ju Mong’s wellbeing. Ju Mong welcomes them, and the minister states they have brought with them blacksmiths who will learn the secret of steel making. Ju Mong says he will keep his promise to Buyeo, and Naro states in that case, Buyeo will send soldiers and horse to assist Goguryeo in the attack against Yodong fort. Ju Mong states if Goguryeo and Buyeo can join together then they will surely conquer Yodong. Ju Mong then tells Sayong to prepare a feast for the Buyeo envoys, and Sayong agrees to the order. As Naro turns to leave he suddenly sees San-cheon (Yuri) standing among the ministers and Naro is startled. Afterwards, Naro’s guard finds out San-cheon is King Ju Mong’s son Yuri, and Naro is in disbelief that Yuri is alive. Mopalmo reports to Ju Mong that the blacksmiths from Buyeo are all experienced and skilled, and thus they should be great assistance in their weapon making, and Mari says it is a will from the heavens to help them beat Han nation. Back in Buyeo, Head General Heukchi states if their blacksmiths can learn to make steel swords, then their nation will benefit greatly from it. Budeukbul agrees the reason why Goguryeo was able to become such a strong force in such a short time is all due to their steel advancement, and once they can catch up, their nation will also be a great force. Daeso is happy to hear such, and just then a messenger arrives with news that the governor of Yodong has arrived.
Governor Hwang comes in, and Daeso asks what brings him. Hwang states Yodong has already prepared itself for war, and soon 20,000 soldiers will be dispatched from Chang-ahn City to assist Yodong in the war. Daeso asks if Chang-ahn is really sending 20,000 men, and Hwang replies yes. Budeukbul states it takes a while for 20,000 army troops to arrive from Chang-ahn to Yodong and wonders what Yodong will do if Goguryeo should attack the fort before the reinforcement arrives. Hwang says not to worry about it as that will not happen, and Heukchi asks how he can be so sure. Hwang says not long ago, the Han assassins went to Goguryeo and killed their blacksmiths and destroyed their weapon factory. Hwang glees as he states no matter how Goguryeo rushes to build new factory they will not have weapons in time for battle, and Daeso is dismayed. Afterwards, Daeso says he was tricked by the Goguryeo people, and Daeso yells asking what happened to their spies in Goguryeo for not reporting such big event, and the Jaeboo minister wonders if they can recall their blacksmiths, and Heukchi says since they have already sent them there they don’t have an excuse to ask them back, and Budeukbul suddenly tells Daeso to think of it as a good thing and Daeso is surprised. Afterwards, Daeso thinks over Budeukbul’s words, that this could be an opportunity for them as they watch Goguryeo and Han weaken one another. Next, Naro returns from his trip, and Naro tells Daeso the boy Sancheon from the fights competition is in Goguryeo and Daeso is surprised to hear such. Naro explains Sancheon is Ju Mong’s son Yuri and Daeso is shocked and angry. Meanwhile, Yeongpo drinks his sorrow away again, and Majin comes in to ask him to go outside and see what is happening. Yeongpo scolds Majin saying everything is his fault, and Majin persuades Yeongpo to go and see a spectacular thing happening. Yeongpo goes out and watches from distance as the oracles put up a shrine of something. Majin whispers something in Yeongpo’s ears and Yeongpo asks if it is true. Yeongpo says if that is the case then he should join in too and Yeongpo goes to Mawuryeong and Yang Seolran.
Yeongpo tells Empress Yang Seolran that he had heard that she was putting up a cursory shrine against Ju Mong, and Yeongpo says he wants to join in as he too wants to get rid of Ju Mong. Next, Mawuryeong, together with Seolran and Yeongpo, kneel before the shrine and Mawuryeong asks the heavens to kill Ju Mong who is blocking Buyeo’s future. Yeongpo recites the prayer for the curse, and suddenly strong gusts of wind begin to blow and lightening begins to strike down the shrine, and Mawuryeong, killing her instantly. Yeongpo and Seolran are frightened and Yeongpo pushes Majin to go and see what has happened to Mawuryeong and Majin nervously goes to Mawuryeong and states she is dead. Yeongpo flees from the scene as Seolran is shocked by the happening. Haochen tells her to flee and Seolran is in dismay. The Queen Wonhu is told that Mawuryeong has been killed by lightning during the ceremony putting a curse on Ju Mong, as directed by Empress Seolran. The queen goes to see Daeso and asks him if he knows what happened, and Daeso says he does. Queen Wonhu states even though she too despises Ju Mong, Ju Mong must be protected by the heavens thus Daeso should not go against Ju Mong anymore, and Daeso tells her not to worry and that he will not perish so easily.
In Goguryeo, Mopalmo oversees the blacksmiths labor away as they make more steel swords and Jaesa and Mookgeo come and check on the work. Mookgeo asks about bomb making and Mopalmo says the explosives are being manufactured smoothly as well. The two report the status to Ju Mong in court saying the blacksmiths from Buyeo are getting the work done smooth, and Buwuiyeom also states their soldiers from borders are prepared for attack against Yodong. Ju Mong asks Mari to send message to Haeng-in and Bu-gok nation to prepare for Yeon-na army and Mari says he will. Just then, Yuri speaks up saying he has something to say, and everyone is surprised. Yuri states the Hans killed their blacksmiths and he thinks they should avenge their deaths, and Ohyi agrees they should do something as well. Yuri states from his findings, Chang-ahn is sending Governor Hwang J-kyeong’s brother Hwang Ja-seong toward Yodong fort, and Ju Mong listens intently. Yuri states if Ju Mong gives him a group of army he will go and kill governor Hwang’s brother. Ju Mong compliments Yuri saying it is a wise judgment, and tells the court he will go on the assassination mission himself. Prince Biryu appears upset by it, and Sayong states it is too dangerous for the king to go. Jaesa says Sayong is right and asks Ju Mong to send Ohyi instead. Ju Mong says he will not sit back and orders Ohyi to prepare for departure. At this Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak see an opportunity before them, as Biryu wonders what all this means. Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak visit with Biryu and Yangtak tells Biryu for sure the way King Ju Mong looked at Yuri was different from the way the king looked at Biryu and Biryu asks what he means. Yangtak states it means the king cherishes Yuri over him, and Yeonchaeryeong warns Biryu the difference will only get bigger in the future, and that there’s a rumor going around once Yesoya recovers she will be named royal queen. Biryu is surprised to hear this and Yeonchaeryeong states once that happenes, Prince Yuri will be named crown prince over Biryu and asks Biryu if he will sit still for such. Biryu states as he knows it his mother contributed greatly to the founding of Goguryeo thus he doesn’t believe the king would demote her such. However Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong say that is not so and that Soseono already gave up the position of Goguryeo’s monarch back when the title should’ve been hers instead of Ju Mong’s. Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong explain Soseono gave everything to Ju Mong and Damul army and that is how Damul was able to defeat Hyeonto and become Goguryeo, and it is nonsense that Soseono would have to suffer again because of Yesoya and Yuri.
Next, Prince Biryu goes to see Soseono and says he wants to ask something. Biryu says a strange thing is going around the palace that once Yesoya is recovered mother would be demoted while Yesoya promoted to queen. Soseono says she doesn’t know where he heard such, but that is what she wants. Biryu is surprised and asks what will become of her and him, and Ohnjo. Soseono says their ranking isn’t that important as long as they can serve the king, and Biryu states he won’t sit still for that, and that Yuri is younger than he and he will not allow Yuri to be crown prince over him. Soseono calls out to Biryu worried, but Biryu gets up and leaves, and outside Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong watch Biryu looking troubled in thought. Meanwhile, Ju Mong and his group of army, together with Ohyi and Prince Yuri leave for their mission against governor Hwang’s brother en route to Yodong, and as the Hans pass through, Ju Mong and his Goguryeo people begin a surprise attack on Hwang and his Han soldiers. During the fight, Hwang has sword up against Yuri’s throat and Ju Mong who witnesses it rushes to Yuri’s aid, killing Hwang with his sword. Afterwards, in Yodong fort the general rushes to the governor with news that his brother was attacked by Goguryeo assassins and Hwang frantically asks about his brother. The general apologizes and Hwang is furious about his brother’s death. Hwang asks who did the attack, and the general states it was king Ju Mong. Hwang vows he will not let anyone in Goguryeo survive, as he curses out Ju Mong’s name. Meanwhile back in Goguryeo Soseono thinks over Biryu’s words and she is worried, when her guard comes in with news that Yesoya has regained her consciousness. Soseono goes to Yesoya’s side, and Yesoya tries to stand to greet Soseono, but Soseono tells her not to get up. Yesoya’s maid leaves, and Soseono sits by Yesoya’s side. Soseono says it is great fortune that Yesoya has awakened like this, and Yesoya apologizes for the burden she has caused. Yesoya says not to say such thing and states if Yesoya did not recover then the king would’ve been in deep despair and Soseono thanks Yesoya for waking up. Yesoya calls Soseono the queen, and states now that she has awakened she will leave. Soseono says that is nonsense, and Yesoya explains all she wanted was to find Yuri’s father for Yuri before she died, and her existence here will cause trouble for the king and the queen, thus she will leave for fear she will get in the way of the queen and the king accomplishing their great will together. Soseono states Yesoya is the rightful wife of Ju Mong and the rank of queen belongs to Yesoya. Yesoya states that cannot be, and just then the guard comes in with news that Ju Mong has returned after killing Hwang’s brother.
Soseono asks Yesoya if she can walk and if so to go out to welcome the king together. Thus, with help from the maid, Yesoya walks out following Soseono, to the courtyard where Ju Mong, Yuri and the soldiers return. Ju Mong and Yuri focus their gaze on Yesoya, and Ju Mong calls out to Yesoya, as Yesoya calls out to the king. Yesoya gazes at Yuri next, and Soseono who feels Biryu looking upset by it looks down to the ground. Next, Ju Mong and Yesoya are alone, and Ju Mong thanks Yesoya for raising Yuri so greatly. Soya says she did not do anything for Yuri as his mother, and Ju Mong disagrees saying Yuri will surely be a great contributor in their cause against the Hans. Yesoya appears touched, and Ju Mong who is also moved grabs her hand, and Ju Mong tells Yesoya he will repay the misgiving he has caused her and Yuri with the rest of his life. Yesoya says nothing and then he continues to hold her hand as they spend a moment together. Meanwhile, Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong tell Biryu the king will soon be going to the border with Yuri and that is their opportunity to get rid of them so that Biryu will inherit the throne for certain. Biryu is hesitant and afraid but he does not reject either. Thus, as King Ju Mong shows Prince Yuri the Goguryeo border with a group of soldiers, Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong stand before their private group of assassins and Yangtak tells the men if they succeed in their attack mission they and their offsbrings will be met with riches for generations to come. At this the men cheer, and Biryu watches from distance. Next, Yeontabal tells Soseono that Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong have moved a group of men and horse and for sure they must be scheming a coup. Soseono is shocked and asks Yeontabal where Ju Mong is. Yeontabal says he is at the border and Soseono asks Yeontabal to prepare a horse for her at once. While Ju Mong and Yuri are with their group of men at the border, Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong are nearing with their group of assassins, as Soseono and Sayong, together with Yeontabal are trailing with their group of soldiers…

Actually, I really like a story with a love triangle. The story becomes more exciting and more tragic. But think of it, Soya will also die ate the end and Seoshono will be the queen again. Soya risk her life for Jumong. It’s a big responsibility and at the same time she takes care of her son Yuri. On the other hand, Seoshono is there for Jumong in times of despair and aloneness. So to sum it up, Both of them still are the queen in Jumong’s heart. Just as there is the First Love. They are both his love one, isn’t it? So if you feel I am wrong, It’s okay, just a comment I want to leave.

When you really analyze the movie, Jumong’s real love was really Seosono. In the movie, when he got back from “going missing”, she had gotten married! But his feelings never waned. You could see this from their exchange of looks. His mother urged him to marry the only available woman in that place - Yesoya. But in pursuit of his mission, he left her in Puyo for a long time. Knowing his personality, and his goodness, his GUILT feelings were the main reason why he was giving mother and son all the attention he could. Yuri confirmed this when he blamed Jumong for “abandoning” them and making them live in misery. So, no worry. I believe Seosono was Jumong’s real love, and his feelings for her was real and deep-seated. Sharing the goal of founding Goguryeo together had even strenghthened this.

What we are watching is the true story of how the ancient korea was just reunited. We can not dictate jumong whom to choose among the two wives he had. What if Hye jin han was the one to potrayed the role of soya ? Who would you want to be jumong’s partner ?
November 13th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
yes, i agree with “ffwtpd” - that what if Han Hye-jin and Song Ji-hyo had switched roles? that what of it was Han Hye-jin who portrayed Yesoya?
So, that just figures, “it’s just how the story goes.”
And besides, if you see other pictures of Song Ji-hyo, she doesnt look bad–no, not at all! As a matter of fact, that kind of hairstyle in Jumong just sucks on her.

mas bagay naman si jumong at soya no! kaya if u don’t like the story, DONT WATCH IT

Soseono’s son with Jumong is not as good looking as Yuri BUT to be fair to the viewer IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEARER…i bought a DVD (pirated series) where the ENGLISH SUBTITLES made it more confusing.
There’s also ADs that Jumong kissed Soseono but as I watch the movie several times the most intimate moment was hugging only.
