Jumong Episode 80

I’m getting a bit sad as we near the end ofJumong. This is Episode 80, the second to the last!
***
Ju Mong, together with Yuri and Goguryeo’s commanders arrive in the Goguryeo border, and Commander Ohyi instructs the soldiers to be on extra alert as the enemy could attack them at any time. Just then Moogol comes with news that according to their spies in Buyeo, Emperor Geumwa is currently wandering about near Goguryeo and Buyeo border and Ohyi is surprised and asks why Geumwa is here but Moogol is unsure. At night, Ju Mong and his commanders and generals meet, and Ju Mong says the news of their pending war with Han has been spread all over and the citizens who live nearby the border are living in fear. Buwuiyeom suggests they should build a signal-fire and everyone is surprised. Buwuiyeom states when he was living as a pirate in Eomnu he learned how to build it. Ju Mong orders the men to get on it, and Hyeopbo compliments Buwuiyeom saying for a pirate he sure is useful, and everyone bursts out laughing. Ju Mong then tells Yuri to read about the history of Goguryeo, and just then Ohyi comes in with news that in the small village called Yang-cheon nearby the border, Emperor Geumwa has arrived. Ju Mong asks why Geumwa is there, and Ohyi says Geumwa has left Buyeo palace and spends his days visiting the people. Ju Mong thinks alone afterwards, and next, in Yang-cheon, Songju brings news to Geumwa that King Ju Mong has come to visit. Geumwa asks why Ju Mong is all the way here, and Songju says Ju Mong is currently visiting the border. Geumwa tells Songju to escort Ju Mong in, and Ju Mong comes in with his son Yuri. Geumwa glances at Yuri, and Ju Mong tells Yuri to bow before Geumwa, then Ju Mong tells Geumwa the boy is Yuri. Geumwa is shocked and stands up before Yuri, asking Yuri if he is really Yuri. Yuri nods saying yes, and Geumwa asks Yuri if his mother is alive, and Yuri replies yes. Geumwa grabs Yuri’s hand, and tells Yuri he has done wrong to him and to his mother, and Geumwa asks Yuri to forgive him. Yuri says nothing as Ju Mong watches. Next, Ju Mong talks to Geumwa alone, and Geumwa says he had heard about Goguryeo and Buyeo’s alliance. Ju Mong replies it is so, but it is only in name, since King Daeso appears to have joined hands with Goguryeo on the surface but Daeso only did so in order to escape from a crisis, and thus the two nations have not really joined alliance. Geumwa is silent, and Ju Mong continues to say the war with Han is nearing, and if Buyeo continues its current state it may suffer even greater loss soon. Ju Mong says Goguryeo and Buyeo must be on the same side in order to destroy Han, and Ju Mong asks Geumwa to help him persuade Daeso in making the right decision. Geumwa sighs and states he is unsure what influence he has on Daeso but he will do his best to relate Ju Mong’s message to Daeso.
Next day, Ju Mong and his troop are moving through the mountain road, as Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong’s spies watch them from distance. They return and report to Yeonchaeryeong that Ju Mong’s group has left Taebong and is en route toward Hacheong village. Yangtak unfolds a map and states in order to reach Hacheong, they must first pass through Seonnu and the palace, thus their opportunity to rid of them lies in Seonnu, and Yeonchaeryeong nods in agreement. Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak approach Prince Biryu to report to him that they will surprise attack Ju Mong in Seonnu before he can return to the palace and Biryu appears uneasy. Yangtak reminds Biryu they have already crossed the river and unless they kill Ju Mong and Yuri, they will die. Yeonchaeryeong tells Biryu not to forget that everything they are doing is for Biryu and for Queen Soseono. Yangtak moves forward with their plan as he puts on a mask and gives his army the okay to attack, but just then, Yangtak’s men are shot by arrows and as Yangtak looks up he is startled to find a group of soldiers led by Soseono and Soyang. The two groups begin to battle each other, and Soseono goes after Yangtak, throwing his sword into the tree. Next, with most of their men lost, Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong are brought kneeling before Soseono and Yeontabal, and Soseono says to Yeonchaeryeong she clearly warned her not to create any more upheaval and asks her what she has to say. Yeonchaeryeong replies she is merely trying to do something that Soseono is unable to, and Yangtak states they are offering to bring her the throne without putting blood on her hands, and Yangtak asks Soseono why she is stopping them. Yeontabal is furious and draws his sword out ordering them to shut up. Yeontabal has his sword pointing at Yangtak’s throat, and Soseono tries to stop him, but Yeontabal states he will finish them with his own hand. Yeonchaeryeong is frantic but she tells them before they kill them, they should find out who is behind all this. Yeontabal asks who else is behind it and just then, Sayong arrives, bringing with him Prince Biryu. Soseono is shocked to see Biryu there, and Yeontabal calls out to the prince, who looks up with sorrowful eyes while saying nothing.
Afterwards, in an army tent, Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak are bound by ropes, sitting across Yeontabal, Sayong and Soseono. Yeonchaeryeong says their task was to put Prince Biryu on the throne, but Yeontabal says she merely used Biryu to try to gain power for herself, and she would’ve eventually killed Biryu to take the throne for herself. Yeonchaeryeong complains but Yeontabal says he should’ve killed her a long time ago, and Yeontabal tells Soseono it is all his fault and asks her to punish him. Soseono tells Sayong to alert everyone that from this moment forward Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak are exiled from Goguryeo, and Soseono looks at her aunt and warns her if she should be seen on Goguryeo land again she will surely be killed. Thus, Sayong escorts the two out, and Yeontabal then tells Biryu to go inside as his mother is waiting for him. Biryu comes in and Soseono tells him to sit. Biryu follows order, and Soseono asks him if he really planned on killing the king, and Biryu replies that is the road to survival she has panned out for him. Soseono is surprised and states she has so far trusted him so much, as has the king, and Soseono shouts asking if he was this weak and low all along. Biryu is tearful, and he states he was afraid at the way King Ju Mong looks at Yuri, and at the thought that mother would abandon him as well. Soseono is stunned, and Biryu states he has worked very hard in order to be Goguryeo’s king, and Biryu asks Soseono why he must give up everything. Soseono calls out Biryu’s name, and Biryu continues saying if mother had worried about his future even for once, she would not have agreed to give up her queenship. Biryu shouts maybe she can give up her future for the king, but he cannot. Soseono is tearful, and a crying Biryu asks her why she must impose her choice on them, and why must she stop his and Ohnjo’s future. Soseono is speechless as tears roll down her face and the mother and son say nothing more. Meanwhile, in Goguryeo palace, Ju Mong has returned and heads to the iron factory where Mopalmo shows him the newly made steel sword made by the Buyeo blacksmiths. Ju Mong takes a look at it and tells Mopalmo it is great and he has done great. Mopalmo says they will go full force to produce these weapons, and Ju Mong turns to face the blacksmiths. Ju Mong tells them they have suffered greatly not sleeping for many nights working in the factory, but they must remember their sacrifice will accomplish success for Goguryeo, and the men reply yes.
Next, Ju Mong watches his men train for battle, and afterwards he goes over his war strategy with his ministers and commanders. Soseono returns to the palace, and Gyepil runs to her asking where she’s been and that the king has been looking for her. Soseono walks away, and Gyepil grabs onto Sayong asking what happened. Sayong replies Chaeryeong and Yangtak have been exiled from Goguryeo, and Gyepil is startled. Sayong states the two tried to scheme an undertake and since no one else knows about it Gyepil is to keep it quiet. Soseono comes to see the king, and Ju Mong says they are almost all prepared but there is just one problem and Soseono asks what. Ju Mong states the were told that their help in Haeng-in and Buk-ok does not have enough supplies, and Soseono says she was in fact planning on sending a trade group to the south for supplies. Ju Mong says he will put that task in her hands and asks her to take care of it. Soseono replies yes, and Ju Mong who senses her loss of energy asks if something is troubling her. Soseono pauses and replies she has exiled Chaeryeong and Yangtak. Ju Mong is surprised, and Soseono asks him to forgive for her for not consulting him first. Ju Mong says he trusts her judgment and decision, but Chaeryeong is her relative and asks what sin did she commit to be exiled. Soseono replies the two of them committed a great offense against Goguryeo’s peace, and Soseono states that will not happen again thus the king should focus all his energy on the war.
Meanwhile, Prince Yuri visits his mother Yesoya, who asks him what he’s been doing. Yuri replies he’s been reading about the record of Goguryeo in its founding years, and Soya nods in approval. Yuri then states as he read them he realizes how much his father suffered, and this has been an opportunity for him to undo his lament toward his father. Soya tells Yuri their existence in Goguryeo could bring unrest to Goguryeo thus they must not cause any trouble to stir the king, and Yuri replies yes. As the mother and son walk off, Soseono arrives and watches them leave, as she thinks over the words of Biryu when he lamented his fears and despair. With these thoughts Soseono is brought to tears again. Yeontabal catches up to her and watches her weep and Soseono confides in her father she never realized how deep Biryu’s despair was and as their mother she failed in detecting their internal torment. Soseono states while her sons were in shock by Yuri’s presence, she failed to do anything to comfort them, and instead she forced them to give up everything when they were innocent. Yeontabal states one day the princes will understand her heart as well, but Soseono says she is not sure why she has done what she did and what she hopes to trade for the wounds she put on Biryu. Soseono continues to weep and she states she is not sure what she must do, how she can accept the king and Goguryeo, while protecting her children. Soseono wonders how she can protect Biryu who is lost in anger and despair, and Yeontabal says he cannot relate to her torment but he believes she will make the right decision as set by the heavens.
Mari goes to see king Ju Mong, and Mari asks Ju Mong if he knows about Chaeryeong and Yangtak’s exile. Ju Mong replies he heard it from the queen, and Mari then asks if he knows why they were exiled. Ju Mong is silent and Mari sighs. Ju Mong tells him to speak up, and Mari says the two of them try to overthrow the throne with a surprise attack, but the queen stopped them, and that is why the two were exiled. Ju Mong is shocked by the revelation and asks Mari who else knows about it. Mari says just him, and Ju Mong says not to mention to anyone. Mari complains the issue is grand and people should know about it, but Ju Mong says to think about why the queen wanted to take care of it quietly and he too does not want to see talk of internal strife in Goguryeo. Mari sighs and says he understands and Ju Mong thinks over the matter. In Yodong fort, Governor Hwang finds out Goguryeo has continued its weapon manufacturing and Governor Hwang is shocked asking how when their blacksmiths were killed. Hwang’s man states Daeso sent Buyeo blacksmiths to help Goguryeo and Governor Hwang becomes furious that Daeso tricked him. In Buyeo, Yeongpo drinks his sorrow away, and Majin urges him to stop drinking and get some fresh air at last. Yeongpo says he cannot after Mawuryeong’s death and every night he dreams about Ju Mong strangling him. Just then Naro arrives telling Yeongpo the king is looking for him. Yeongpo goes to see Daeso, who asks him if he is already drunk in the bright daylight. Daeso allows him to sit and asks him how much longer will he carry this on, and asks Yeongpo isn’t it time for him to wake up. Daeso asks Yeongpo if he knows where their father is, and Yeongpo replies no. Daeso then says despite being ill, their father is going around Buyeo border to greet their citizens and Daeso orders Yeongpo to go and serve their father instead of drinking nonstop in the palace. Yeongpo complains saying it is difficult task to travel from village to village, but Daeso says their father who is ill is doing it thus he can too and orders Yeongpo to leave immediately, and warns him if he disobeys the king’s order he will not be forgiven.
In Goguryeo, Prince Yuri practices fighting with commander Ohyi, and Ohyi gains upperhand. Moogol and Mookgeo watch, and Yuri tells Ohyi he is not good enough to be matched to Commander Ohyi. Ohyi replies Yuri has improved a lot, and Moogol says he will help Yuri, and Yuri thanks him. Just then, Prince Biryu arrives, and asks Yuri if he is practicing fighting. Yuri replies yes, and Ohyi asks Biryu if he will try a match with Yuri. Biryu states it is no use since he will not beat Yuri anyway, but Yuri says he has a lot to learn and he wishes to learn from Biryu. However Biryu states he is no longer interested in fighting and tells Yuri he should work hard and commit a great achievement for Goguryeo. Biryu then walks away, and the gathered wonder what’s going on. Next, Soseono sits before Ju Mong and she says she has a request from him. Soseono says their trade group is ready to depart to south, and she wishes to put Prince Ohjno and Biryu in charge of the mission. Ju Mong says it is a dangerous mission and asks her if there is a reason she must send them. Soseono says they can handle it and asks him to approve it. Ju Mong says to do it as she sees fit and next, Soseono gathers her sons to talk. Soseono faces her sons, and tells them she has something she wants them to be in charge of. She states soon a trade group will be heading south with supplies, and she asks Biryu and Ohnjo to lead the mission. Sayong says Gyepil is supposed to be in charge of it, but Soseono tells him to stay out of it. Soseono calls out Biryu and states it will not be an easy task, but it is a mission that he is more than able to accomplish if he puts his passion in it. Soseono asks her sons if they can do it and Ohnjo replies they can. Soseono then tells them to prepare to leave, and the two boys step out. Sayong tells Soseono he cannot understand her will as to send them to onto such a dark dangerous path, and Soseono replies she wants her sons to see that there is a wide world out there. In Yodong fort, Governor Hwang is told that Buyeo’s Emperor Geumwa is going around Buyeo’s border villages and Hwang plans a scheme.
In this Buyeo village where Geumwa is, he asks the villagers how they are able to survive as their village is so poor and the village man replies in the summer they sell medicinal herbs, but in the winter many of them starve. Another villager states King Daeso sends rations to them but the villagers don’t get to most of it, since the soldiers who are in charge of dispensing the food confiscate it first. The village men plead to Geumwa to take on their plight and Geumwa says he will. Just then a young boy comes forward to give something he prepared for Geumwa. Geumwa opens the jar to see an eel, and the boy’s father says the boy caught it himself for the king, and Geumwa thanks the boy warmly. Songju calls Geumwa’s attention to the arrival of Prince Yeongpo, and Geumwa smiles as he is happy to see Yeongpo. Yeongpo bows before Geumwa calling out fahter king, and next, the two drink together at night. Yeongpo looks at the humble place his father is staying and Yeongpo urges Geumwa to return to the palace, but Geumwa laughs, and says all his life he has never lived so peacefully, and Geumwa tells Yeongpo he knows he still has misgiving in his heart and Geumwa urges Yeongpo to set his heart free. Yeongpo complains he cannot understand why Daeso will not give him an opportunity to redeem himself, and Geumwa says unless Yeongpo frees his heart he will not be able to see where his path is, and Geumwa asks Yeongpo to keep him company as they travel around and thus Yeongpo will get a chance to decipher what it is the path he should go on eventually. However, outside the inn, masked assassins from Yodong arrive, and the assassins kill off the guards. Majin watches and runs into to report the happening to Geumwa and Yeongpo, and Majin urges them to flee at once. As they try to escape the assassins catch up to them, and Yeongpo draws his sword to fight off the attackers while Majin hides in a corner. Geumwa tries to fend off the attackers as well and Yeongpo calls Songju to go protect Geumwa but before Songju can get to his aid, the assassins surround Geumwa and one of them stabs him deep. Yeongpo runs to Geumwa who has fallen with blood gushing out, and Geumwa puts his hand on Yeongpo and calls out to Yeongpo while trembling.
In Buyeo palace, the queen mother tells Seolran how she is worried since they still don’t have an heir for the throne, and Seolran looks down, then says since none of the concubines are pregnant, they should find a new method. Just then the palace minister runs in saying a horrible thing has happened. Seolran asks what and the minister says Geumwa was attacked and has returned to the palace. Daeso goes to Geumwa’s bedside and while Geumwa is unconscious the queen mother and Queen Seolran both arrive. The mother queen is about to faint seeing Geumwa like so, and she regains her stance and tells Geumwa to hurry and wake up to do what he said he would do. Geumwa begins to regain his consciousness, and both Yeongpo and Daeso call out to him. Geumwa calls out to Daeso, and as he stutters Geumwa asks Daeso to finish his dream of making Buyeo a strong nation who can destroy Han. Daeso says he will surely do so, and asks Geumwa to hurry and recover, but Geumwa continues to speak in his weak voice and Geumwa says Daeso must join hands with Goguryeo or else Buyeo will not be able to defeat Han. Daeso grabs Geumwa’s hand, and suddenly Geumwa’s hand drops as he dies. At this Daeso weeps aloud, as the ministers, generals, and servants kneel outside as they weep over Geumwa’s death. In Goguryeo, Ju Mong’s advisors report to him about Yodong is about 5000 soldiers, but soon Chang-ahn’s 20,000 soldiers will arrive. Jaesa says they should attack Yodong before the reinforcement reach Yodong and Ju Mong tells Mari to notify Haeng-in and Buk-ok to have Yeonna army watch over the situation. Just then Hyeopbo comes in with news that Commander Ohyi wishes to see him. Ohyi is let in, and Ohyi reports to Ju Mong the death of Geumwa. Ju Mong says he saw him not long ago and it is hard to believe he died so soon. Ohyi says Geumwa was assassinated by Han attackers, and Ju Mong is dismayed. Ju Mong orders Jaesa to send a gift of condolence to Buyeo. At night, Ju Mong steps out on the balcony and thinks over Geumwa’s death as Hyeopbo watches. In Yodong fort, a messenger from Chang-ahn arrives and tells Hwang their reinforcement is on the way. The messenger than says the Han imperial has heard about the assassination of Geumwa, and the imperial is worried that Buyeo might join hands with Goguryeo because of it but Hwang says not to worry.
Buyeo is mourning over the death of Geumwa, and Daeso tells Budeukbul he will go to Goguryeo now. In Goguryeo palace, Prince Biryu and Ohnjo return from their trip to the south having accomplished their mission successfully and a smiling Soseono says they did great. Gyepil compliments on Biryu’s great skills and Soseono exchanges a look of approval. Afterwards Soseono talks to her sons alone, and asks about their impression of the south. Biryu says he was shocked to see how wide and great the world is, and Ohnjo agrees saying even the climate is warmer and more livable than Goguryeo. Soseono says it is so and one day they will live there. Biryu asks what she means and she says they will find out soon. Meanwhile, Hyeopbo birngs news of Daeso and Budeukbul’s arrival to Ju Mong and Ju Mong is surprised. Hyeopbo says the two came quietly under disguise in order to escape the eyes of the Han spies. Ju Mong goes to the courtyard to greet Daeso and comforts him over Geumwa’s death. Daeso thanks him for sending condolence. Next, Musong tells Mopalmo about Daeso and Budeukbul’s visit and Mopalmo asks why they came. Musong says he has no idea what scheme Daeso is up to next, but Mopalmo says Daeso would not come all the way here himself unless it is something really important. Daeso talks to Ju Mong alone and Daeso tells Ju Mong he has come at the wish of Buyeo’s deceased emperor. Daeso says he wishes to defeat Han together with Ju Mong and even though he was not sincere when he said he would join alliance with Goguryeo previously he is sincere this time and asks Ju Mong to trust him. Daeso states he wishes to destroy Han to avenge the deceased emperor’s death, and Ju Mong says Daeso has made a righteous decision as the two of them will surely defeat Han if they work together. Daeso says their nation of Buyeo is in dire state as of current with shortage in grains and goods, and Ju Mong says Goguryeo has prepared amply for supplies and there is enough to send to Buyeo for Buyeo to prepare for war. Ju Mong then calls Hyeopbo in and orders him to send grains and supplies to Buyeo at once.
Next, Ju Mong goes over their war strategy with Daeso, showing him the map the Goguryeo spies have prepared sacrificing their lives. Daeso says he will put everything in Ju Mong’s command, and Ju Mong tells Ohyi to prepare their armies for war.

According to history, 2nd wife lang si So Seo No at real sons talaga ni Jomong si Biryu at Onjo who later on became founder of Baekje Kingdom, one of three kingdoms of Korea (Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla). Baekje Kingdom is now South Korea while Goguryeo was and is in the north. There was no mention of another man or marriage for So Seo No aside from Jumong. So don’t despair mga fans ni Jumong, offspring pa rin ni Jumong ang nagtatag at nagpalago sa two kingdoms out of three kingdoms of Korea. Sa mga fans ni So Seo No, siya lng ang Empress at Queen Consort ni Jumong. Ye So Ya never made it to Goguryeo since there was some doubt as to Prince Yuri identity, kng real son or just pretending to be Yuri. Common sense lng, if Ye So Ya came with Yuri, there won’t be this usurpation theory by some historians, right? She would have made it clear that he’s the true Yuri. I believe that he’s the real Yuri though because one of his sons killed Dae So and annexed Bu You to Goguryeo later on.

Jumong is the most coolest stories of all. It seem so real, and it seems so interesting. I like that alot .
