Jumong fans, this is the last episode of this very entertaining Koreanovela! It’s Episode 81, the finale!
***
In Goguryeo palace, King Ju Mong steps onto the palace courtyard as he asks his commanders if they are all prepared for departure. They reply yes, and Ju Mong asks Mari to announce their next step. Mari tells the commanders they must first capture all of Han’s spies in Goguryeo thus he orders Moogol to head the task. Hence, Moogol and Bubunno together with a group of soldiers take the Han spies into custody. Next, Ju Mong and the Goguryeo generals begin to march off from Goguryeo toward the battle. Meanwhile, in Goguryeo palace, Queen Soseono asks Musong and Mopalmo about their war supplies and Musong answers they already sent supplies to Buyeo and their own supplies will follow after the armies soon, and Mopalmo states they have sent the Buyeo blacksmiths back to Buyeo already and should be able to develop steel weapons in Buyeo from now on. Yeontabal says the success of their war depends heavily on their supply unit and if the supply unit does not reach the king in time then it will cause grave trouble. Soseono agrees and orders Sayong to tend to the protection of the unit. Afterwards Soseono says they must not let their guards down from this moment forward as if they are holding swords in their hands themselves. In Yodong fort, Governor Hwang orders his commander to attack Buyeo border, and one of the commanders say while their armies are absent Goguryeo could attack them, but Hwang says that will not happen, since their spies in Goguryeo told him Goguryeo does not plan on attacking Yodong until a month later thus they can use that time to attack Buyeo, and the commanders compliment on his plan.
In Buyeo, King Daeso announces in court he will join Goguryeo to attack Yodong army. Daeso’s subjects are shocked, and Yeongpo asks Daeso if he really plans to do so, and Daeso replies in the past he has worked with Han for their nation, but from now on Han is their enemy, and they must destroy Han to avenge for the resurrected emperor (Geumwa). Yeongpo complains joining force with Goguryeo means they are acknowledging defeat to Ju Mong, but Daeso firmly states in order to destroy Han, he is willing to join hands with anyone, and Budeukbul watches intently. Daeso orders Prince Yeongpo to assist him in the war, and just then Naro comes in with news their border has been attacked by Han’s Yodong army. At this, Daeso remembers his conversation with Ju Mong in Goguryeo, when Ju Mong warned him that Yodong will surely attack Buyeo first, and when it does, Goguryeo will attack the Yodong fort. The ministers are frantic as King Daeso to do something or else they will be ruined, but Daeso tells them to calm down, and that he already anticipated this attack and he already came up with a strategy with King Ju Mong thus everyone is to follow his order. Daeso calls Heukchi and tells him to prepare their army for departure and heuckhi obeys. Haochen relates the happenings to Seolran and asks her to send the king off to battle, but Seolran is unwilling to do so since Daeso is joining force with Ju Mong. Haochen comforts her saying she should think about how the king must be suffering in his heart to have to succumb to help from Ju Mong and at this Seolran goes out to send Daeso off. Daeso and Yeongpo bow before the mother queen who tells them they must come back safely. Yeongpo says not to worry, and Daeso looks over to Seolran with glossy eyes, and Daeso states he knows she must resent the war efforts but he needs her to understand the situation and Seolran asks Daeso to come back safely.
In Goguryeo army camp, King Daeso and the Buyeo force arrive, and King Ju Mong greets the newly arrived. Daeso tells Ju Mong as Ju Mong predicted the Yodong army attacked the Seonmu border of Buyeo. Ju Mong states the Han does not realize the Buyeo-Goguryeo joint armies are about to attack them, and while the enemy is focused on attacking Buyeo, Goguryeo and Buyeo will attack Han’s Goyeon fort. Budeukbul says Goyeon fort is central to the Han dynasty thus it will be a big blow should the fort be toppled over. Ju Mong agrees and states the Goguryeo army will lead the attack, but Daeso says he will succeed at it, and Ju Mong approves. Thus, as Governor Hwang feasts with other Han leaders, news of Goyeon fort’s fall arrives. Hwang asks how that happened, and the general reports Goyeon fort was attacked by a joined Goguryeo - Buyeo force. Hwang is furious and curses at Ju Mong, and another Han leader says since they thought Goguryeo was not prepared for attack for another month, their spies in Goguryeo must have been captured, thus Ju Mong was able to trick them. Hwang orders his man to report the crisis to central army at once. Next, when Hwang does not hear back from central command right away, he sends his general to send another message to them to state if Yodong fort topples over them Chang-ahn will be in danger as well. Afterwards, Hwang tells General Jin to return to Yodong and prepare their army there for battle.
Bubunno reports to Ju Mong about Yodong’s mobilization, and Ju Mong gathers Daeso and the generals, and Ju Mong says Han will focus on protecting Yodong fort thus that will not be an easy battle to win. The gathered are silent but Daeso speaks up and says Yodong still have more soldiers than the two have combined, and if Chang-ahn should send more armies it will be very difficult for them to defeat Yodong, thus they must topple Yodong before reinforcement arrives. Ju Mong nods in agreement, and Budeukbul says the best strategy is to cause panic within the enemy thus they should attack Yodong from different angles in 3 or 4 stages. Ju Mong agrees, and says he and Daeso will first lead a troop to ignite explosives among Yodong to create panic, and in the meantime, Ohyi is to lead a second group to attack them head on. Next, the battle between Goguryeo - Buyeo vs. Han’s Yodong begins, with Ju Mong’s group leading as the Yodong soldiers are burned by the explosives then attacked head-on. Hwang realizes they are losing their men and he begins to flee the scene at the urging of his commander. Hwang retreats, but Moogol sees him and Moogol shouts as he goes after Hwang. Thus as Hwang flees with his small group of army, Moogol chases after with his group. However, as Hwang passes through, a new group of Han army appears from behind the fields, and the new group begins to shoot arrows at Moogol’s group. As Moogol’s men begin to fall one by one, Moogol halts his group to stop the chase, however the Han soldiers surround Moogol’s group and soon, Moogol’s men are all slaughtered. The Han soldiers surround Moogol who is alone and Governor Hwang walks toward him, telling him to surrender. Moogol tells Hwang to shut up and to surrender instead and Moogol begins to fight off the soldiers encircling him.
Moogol puts up a strong fight but the Han soldiers slash and stab him in multiple places, and at last Moogol falls to the ground, and as he perks himself up holding onto a spear rod, Moogol shouting out Hwang Ja-kyeong’s name with hatred. Hwang Ja-kyeong glares at him, and gives his men the okay to behead Moogol, but just as the man is about to cut off Moogol’s head, Ju Mong and his team arrive and they stop the beheading by shooting Hwang’s man down with an arrow. Hwang looks up and gets back on his horse to flee, and while they run, Ju Mong and Ohyi run to Moogol’s side. The two of them are holding onto Moogol who is about to die, and Moogol glances at Ju Mong and calls out to Ohyi as brother first, then turns his head to King Ju Mong and Moogol utters he wanted to kill Hwang Ja-kyeong for Ju Mong but he didn’t succeed and he apologizes for it. Ju Mong says no, and Moogol looks back at Ohyi and thanks him for everything and apologizes. Ohyi weeps and tells Moogol to be alert that he isn’t going to die, however, Moogol dies in Ju Mong and Ohyi’s arms. Both Ju Mong and Ohyi are in disbelief as they shout and hit trying to wake Moogol up. Moogol remains still with his eyes open but without a breath, and Ju Mong who is furious stands to shout out his anger.
In Yodong army camp, Governor Hwang watches in satisfaction as the soldiers from Chang-ahn arrive. The commander of the newly arrived soldiers bow before Hwang and apologizes for coming so late, but Hwang says it’s okay since now they can beat the enemy. Hwang tells his subject to prepare dinner for the soldiers right away to welcome them. Meanwhile, in Goguryeo army camp, Soseono, Sayong and the material unit busily tends to the injured soldiers, while Mopalmo and Musong hand out more swords to the soldiers. Next day, nearby Yodong, Ju Mong, together with Daeso, Biryu, Yuri, and all the generals are faced off against Hwang and his group once again in their second battle. During the war, Ju Mong is thrown off his horse as a Han soldier attacks Ju Mong’s horse, and just nearby Prince Biryu goes to Yuri’s aid when Yuri gets surrounded by multiple enemy men. Ohyi, Jaesa, Buwuiyeom and Naro continue to fight off the enemies valiantly.
Hwang joins in on the battle himself, and Mari calls Ju Mong’s attention to it. With a determined look, King Ju Mong moves toward Governor Hwang, but Jaesa stops Ju Mong and says he will avenge for Moogol, but Ju Mong tells Jaesa no, that he will kill Hwang himself and Ju Mong moves closer to Hwang. With a few strokes Ju Mong kills Hwang and as he falls, the Yodong commander is in panic as he shouts for their group to retreat. Daeso yells out to stop the enemy and not to allow any one of them to survive. Some time later, Ju Mong and Daeso stand before the fallen enemy soldiers, and Ju Mong raises his sword to the sky to shout out hooray for Goguryeo and the men follow. Daeso raises his sword to the sky next as he shouts out long live Buyeo and the soldiers follow as well. Afterwards, Ju Mong tells the men their victory today was achieved because Buyeo and Goguryeo were joined, and Daeso replies without Ju Mong’s wise direction it would’ve been difficult. Ju Mong says Buyeo and Goguryeo will share the achievement, and Daeso thanks him. Ju Mong then tells everyone tonight they will have a feast of celebration in thus they are to prepare plenty amount of wine and meat to replenish the soldiers. During the feast, Yuri thanks Biryu for saving him in the battle field, and Biryu in turn tells Yuri he already saved him first a long time ago. Yuri smiles and Biryu says they should go and congratulate the king for the victory.
Prince Yuri and Biryu appear before King Ju Mong to congratulate him, and Ju Mong replies he is proud to see them fight in the war against Han since they are the future leaders of Goguryeo, and Ju Mong tells the princes to go and share their victory with the soldiers, and the princes agree. Ju Mong raises his cup to the men before him, and Daeso who watches from distance becomes solemn. Budeukbul calls out to king Daeso, and Daeso says today it was his first victory in a lifetime and the only reason he won is because of Ju Mong. Budeukbul says that is not so, and just like Ju Mong has said victory was only possible because Buyeo joined in. Daeso says regardless he cannot shake away the resentment he feels toward Ju Mong, and Budeukbul replies King Daeso’s despair will soon weigh down Buyeo and that a new beginning has just begun. Daeso says Budeukbul’s words are true, and that this is only the beginning of his and Ju Mong’s competition. King Ju Mong walks away from the celebration for a moment, and Ju Mong grabs upper chest where he was wounded. Soseono notices him and rushes to him asking if he’s alright. Ju Mong says he’s fine and Soseono says she will fetch the doctor, but Ju Mong says he’s okay and tells Soseono she has worked hard. Soseono congratulates Ju Mong for the success, but Ju Mong says it is all because of Soseono’s contribution. However Soseono says it is only because of Ju Mong’s strong will that they have achieved this. Soseono says from the time she first met him, til the time their fate were twisted, to the time she built Jolbon and he Damul, and to the time of founding Goguryeo, until now, she watched him and he never lost his will and vision. Ju Mong is touched and calls out Soseono as wife, and Soseono says the people of Goguryeo are waiting and thus he should hurry and return to Goguryeo to share the glory with the people. Ju Mong nods as he looks at her, and Soseono looks down and looks up again with sorrowful eyes.
Ju Mong, Soseono and their army return to Goguryeo, and as they march in the palace, Yesoya, Ohnjo, Yeontabal and Gyepil stand by to welcome them back. Next, the palace doctor treats Ju Mong’s wound and tells Ju Mong he must relax in order to recover, and Ju Mong says okay and tells the doctor to keep quiet about his wound. Meanwhile, Soseono meets with the Gyeru heads, and Soseono tells them she wishes to leave Goguryeo with the Jolbon people. Gyepil wonders why she would want to leave Goguryeo now that they have victory under them, and Soseono states she realizes it is not an easy task to take the Jolbon people to the south away from Goguryeo, thus she is asking for her father’s help to gather the hearts of the Jolbon people. Gyepil says that is nonsense and why should they leave their land where generations of their people have lived. Sayong sternly asks if it is because of Yesoya and Yuri, and if King Ju Mong is trying to push her out. Soseono says not so, and Sayong asks why she wants to leave now. Sayong says if the king wants to push her out the Jolbon people will gather their strengths to protect her, and Soseono stops him. Gyepil cries out and Soseono says her choice is pave the path for her sons. Gyepil says the path she should pave is the path to Goguryeo kingship, and that is what they should do to avenge Wootae’s death. However, Soseono says she does not want her children to fight over the throne, and since the south is big and wide, it is a good place to build new nations, and thus she will help Biryu and Ohnjo each build their own nation according to their ambition. Yeontabal says he already thought of something like this when she sent the princes to the south before, and Soseono says she knows it is a difficult task but it is the way to survival for them. Yeontabal states it will be heart-wrenching for him to leave this land that he has lived all his life, but he will respect her wish and help her carry out her will. Next, Soseono summons her sons, and Soseono states she will now leave Goguryeo. Ohnjo is startled and Biryu glances at him. Ohnjo asks how and why and where to, and Biryu asks if she is going to the land in the south that he and Ohnjo saw. Soseono says yes, and that King Ju Mong has achieved his dream, and like him, she wants her sons to work toward their dreams of their own nations. Soseono says one must travel a dark road in order to build a new kingdom, but she believes that they can accomplish such. Biryu says he will follow her will, and Ohnjo repeats the same. Soseono dismisses them, and afterwards she is overcome with emotions.
King Ju Mong and his men travel to the new land they have acquired after toppling over Yodong fort, and Ohyi tells Ju Mong the new annex consists of hundreds of miles, and Mari says this is great opportunity for their people. Ju Mong looks around the land and touches the earth with his hand. Afterwards, Ju Mong returns to the palace, and Sayong comes to tell him the queen is waiting for him in her chamber. Ju Mong arrives before Soseono and Ju Mong tells her he went to see the big land they acquired and soon they can move their people there. Soseono smiles and pours a cup of wine for him. Ju Mong asks if she has some worry, and Soseono says no. Ju Mong drinks the wine she poured for him, and Soseono then says she believes her and his fate is very deep. Soseono smiles and says a long time ago, as she went on a trade group she met him and he told her he liked her, but she in turn called him a pathetic fool. Ju Mong smiles as he remembers it, and Soseono says back then she did not need to hide her heart, and when she thinks about it now, that time back then was the most blissful time in her life. Ju Mong replies though when he thinks about their twisted fate his heart aches, he too believes it was his most happy days. Soseono is tearful, and she tells Ju Mong knowing she exists in his heart is enough to make her happy, but now she plans to bury him in her heart and leave Goguryeo. Ju Mong is surprised and asks what she means when she says she is leaving. Soseono looks at him, and replies now she wants to live for Biryu and Ohnjo, and she wants to help them build new kingdoms, thus she will take the Jolbon people and go toward south. Ju Mong calls out to her and she asks him to send her. Ju Mong says he cannot and asks her to change her mind. Soseono says in the future, he will be in torment over the relationship among Yuri, Biryu, and Ohnjo, and she wants to protect both him, and her sons. Soseono gets more tearful, and Ju Mong calls her as his wife, but Soseono looks down as they two say no more. Afterwards, Ju Mong returns to his chamber and his wound above his chest begins to ache again as he ponders over Soseono’s decision. Soseono remains in her chamber sitting as she did not long ago across from Ju Mong, and Soseono weeps silently.
Next morning, Hyeopbo runs to Sayong to ask him if it is true that the queen is really leaving Goguryeo. Sayong says yes, and Hyeopbo says that makes no sense and he should stop her no matter what. Sayong says the queen is determined, and Hyeopbo asks Sayong if he has to leave too, and Sayong replies he should. Hyeopbo looks down in despair, and Sayong says even if he leaves their fate will not end, and until the day he dies he will not forget Hyeopbo. Hyeopbo is tearful, and Sayong glances at him, then leaves when he becomes tearful. Yuri tells Yesoya about Soseono’s decision to leave Goguryeo, and Yuri states even though the king and the ministers are trying to dissuade her she seems determined. Yesoya rushes out to see Soseono, who tells her the wind is too cold for Yesoya’s health. Yesoya asks her if it is really true that she is leaving, and Soseono replies yes. Yesoya says she can’t, and even she and Yuri are burdening her she will leave instead. Soseono says she is not leaving because of her or Yuri. Soseono says she heard that on the day she and Ju Mong married to build Goguryeo, Yesoya came with Yuri to look for Ju Mong but upon seeing the wedding she took Yuri and left. Soseono says when she thinks about how much she must have suffered all these years she is shameful and heart-ached, but now that the king has Yesoya by his side, she can leave without worry, and Soseono asks Yesoya to take good care of the king. Soseono says she is a person with many ambitions and she is leaving to pursue more dreams, thus Yesoya should not blame it on herself. Yesoya is in tears, and Soseono holds her hands to comfort her. Next, in court, Mari and Ohyi urge King Ju Mong to stop Soseono for leaving as she is the queen who has served him for a long time, and Ju Mong says he thinks the same as the rest of them. Ju Mong calls out Yeontabal and states if they want to leave because of fear of internal strife then he can guarantee that will not happen, and Ju Mong asks him to trust him and to help him persuade the queen to change her mind. Yeontabal says nothing, but just then Soseono comes forward and states her decision will not waver. Soseono says she is leaving to pursue new will for Biryu and Ohnjo, and asks him to approve. Ju Mong says nothing and Soseono glances back.
Meanwhile, in Buyeo, Daeso puts on a holy shrine, and Daeso tells the gods that from this moment forward he will carry out the will of the resurrected emperor to bring together his people to build a strong nation together, and Daeso asks the gods to help him and Buyeo so. Daeso then faces his people and tells them from now on Buyeo will build a strong army who can go against Goguryeo and Han. Back in Goguryeo, Ju Mong tells Hyeopbo to bring Mopalmo to him, and Ju Mong tells Mopalmo he is the only one who believed in him when Ju Mong was still an immature prince in Buyeo, and the strength that has carried him to this day, is the constant trust Mopalmo has in him, and Mopalmo says Ju Mong is the one who believed in him, and if not for Ju Mong he would not have developed secret formula to make steel or to make steel armors. Ju Mong says he knows about Mopalmo’s loyalty, but he has a difficult request for him, and Mopalmo says to go ahead. Ju Mong says as Mopalmo knows, the queen is determined to leave, and now he wishes to respect her wish. Ju Mong asks Mopalmo to go with the queen and Mopalmo is tearful from shock. Ju Mong says Soseono will need someone like Mopalmo as she builds new kingdoms, and Ju Mong asks Mopalmo to help her as he helped him. Mopalmo weeps and says he cannot leave Ju Mong and he wishes to serve the king til he dies, but Ju Mong says if Mopalmo is willing to help the queen then he can feel a little bit at ease, and Ju Mong asks Mopalmo to be the one to protect the queen. Mopalmo kneels and weeps and says if that is the king’s wish then he will accept it, and Ju Mong calls out to him and helps him stand up again, and Ju Mong thanks Mopalmo, who continues to weep aloud.
On the day of her departure, Ju Mong has gathered a group of soldiers for her, and as she comes out, Ju Mong tells her the gathered soldiers are Goguryeo’s most skilled men, and these men will protect her on her voyage. Soseono is touched and so is Biryu and Ohnjo, and Ju Mong looks at them then calls Mopalmo out. Mopalmo tells Soseono he will serve her, and Soseono is emotional and she argues that cannot be as she knows full well how important Mopalmo is to the king. Ju Mong says Mopalmo has been developing farming instead of weapon for some time, and Soseono should bring Mopalmo south to cultivate the new land. At this Soseono is speechless as she calls out to the king. Thus, the Jolbon people are led by Soseono as they begin their exodus. King Ju Mong goes after them on fast horse, and upon a hill he watches from distance as Soseono and her sons march away. As he watches them leave, Ju Mong’s wound begins to ache again, and for a moment Ju Mong who is tearful is about to go toward her, but he stops and watches from afar as he grabs onto his aching wound.
Next, before yet another battle against the Han, Ju Mong faces his commanders and soldiers and state Goguryeo is not finished with war, and he will until he dies fight off the Han. At this Ju Mong turns to face off the enemy and he orders his men to attack.
Biryu who has left Goguryeo with Soseono builds the kingdom of Michuhol, and Ohnjo builds Wiryeseong in Hanam, and eventually turns it into the kingdom of Baekje, and Soseono continued to play an important role in the founding and Baekje. Meanwhile, Daeso and Ju Mong’s ill fate continued for a long time, and Daeso is eventually killed by Ju Mong’s grandson Daemushin. Upon Daeso’s death, the kingdom of Dong Buyeo falls. After Soseono leaves, Ju Mong hands over Goguryeo to Yuri, and Ju Mong dies, at the age of 40.

I like the korean author did in adding love story twist w/o sacrificing the historic events of jumong. I like lady Yesoya, she is strong in a very royal mannered way. Sa nabasa ko over the enet, si lady Yesoya talaga inlove si Jumong. He married Seosono because of politics to avoid conflict in the kingdom they were starting. I like the ending, very realistic kahit me twist sa love story. Sana tayo din me gawin na ganyan, pwede gawin telenovela un ke Rizal basta wag lang overacting mga actors please.

Loved it so much. A great story that inspires!
September 18th, 2007 at 6:00 am

‘though they need each other to establish goguryeo.
i also think na in love si jumong kay soya although si soseono ang first love nya.

how i love jumong!!! i have read the true story of Jumong or also known as King DongMyeongSeong of Goguryeo. the fate of Jumong and So Seo-No did not end well as lovers but then So Seo-No was able to build the Kingdom of Baekje together with her sons, Prince Biryu and Prince Ohnjo. Atleast Prince Yuri became the next king of Goguryeo while Prince Ohnjo became the next king of Baekje (So Seo-No and Prince Biryu were the founders of Baekje).

so sad ang ending. pero at least na prove na si so-seo-no ang talagang mas mabigat kay king jumong.imagine when so-seo-no left koguryo, the king hurt so much and after nine months, he died. si so-seo-no talaga yong katuwang ni jumong sa hirap at ginhawa. and speaking li-suya, pinakasalan niya lang rin naman ito para mag-karoon ng status sa buyeo at dahil na rin pinilit siya ng mama niya at ni daeso, at para makalimutan niya si so-seo-no. diba????????

I can’t believe So Seo-No left. If not for her, Jumong’s kingdom would’nt be real. In truth, Soya didn’t help at all to building the new kingdom. And I am quite sure that when So Seo-No left, she never did anything.
