Nayong Pilipino in ruins?

Nayong Pilipino Park (Philippine Village Park) in Manila’s Pasay City is one of the best places to ‘tour’ for a quick glimpse of the most famous landmarks of the Philippines. It’s a 45-acre theme park with miniature versions of the Banaue Rice Terraces, Mount Mayon, Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, among others. A myriad of houses also dot the landscape that function as museums and replicas that capture the cultural heritage from each of the three main regions of the archipelago.

So I was quite saddened to see these flickr pictures taken by Daphne Osena Paez. It’s the Vigan House, rotting and in shambles. Daphne was there to shoot some photographs of models and she mentioned that the house was about to be demolished because the park was/will be closing. Such a shame.

Bukod sa makakadag-dag ito ng turismo, it can also help the students and children in terms of adding educational and cultural knowledge to them. The place can also add bonding and ties to the family. So to summed it up, malaki po ang maitutulong ng muling pagbuhay dito although alam naman po namin na di biro ang maintenace ng ganitong cultural park, I believe po na kapag ginusto magagawan ng paraan…I trust and believe to our government and so with the officials…Sana po wag nyo kaming biguin…Maraming salamat po!!!

The Nayong Pilipino is still open, and open for free to joggers and exercise enthusiasts. Of course the old glory is no more, nothing is left but the Vigan House and the Mayon Volcano, and part of the Banaue Rice terraces. The Visayas and Mindanao areas are gone. A part of the park has been turned into an airsoft wargames area, and the place will soon be torn down to make way for the expanding international airprots.

There is a new nayong pilipino to be built on the reclamation area on manila bay, but nothing can replace the 30 year-old trees and vegetation that will soon be bulldozed in the name of progress.

I was so disappointed and disgusted during my very first vacation after 15 years being out of our beloved place. Nayong Pilipino is one of my very memorable place. My first field trip was on this place my wife and I used to go to this place since we can’t afford to go to this real places.

Hi there. Just wanted to correct your blog entry. My name is not Daphne Osmena-Perez.

My name is Daphne Osena Paez. I was on location at Nayong Filipino to tape an episode of my old show called “Proudly Filipina” We used the park as location for a couple of on-cam interviews I was conducting.
