Pacquiao Not Running for Office

Manny Pacquiao wins boxing title (yay!). Manny Pacquiao becomes famous (whoohoo!). Manny Pacquiao will run for Congress (gasp!). Manny Pacquiao will not run for office (whew!).
Or will he?
According to Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, the boxing champ has changed his mind and will not run for a seat in Congress. According to Pacquiao himself, well, he can’t talk about his final plans at the moment.
The reason for the apparent flip-flop is the Pacman’s need to concentrate on his next fight, a bout with Mexico’s Jorge Solis on April 14 in Texas.
“The final filing of candidacy is on March 29, my fight is on April 14. I’m not saying I’m not running,” he told GMA’s Mel Tiangco to whom Pacquiao had earlier confirmed he would be joining the political race.
But Atienza, a close ally and known adviser of the national boxing hero, said it would be back to the boxing ring for Pacquiao, voted the world’s best boxer in 2006.
And, this is exactly why we think that he should just stay in the boxing ring and out of politics. He obviously prioritizes boxing. How can he effectively serve as a congressman when he could be called away at any time to train and to defend his title? Serving in Congress cannot and should not be a part-time job.
Atienza has it right. “Politics and boxing do not mix”. We could only hope that Pacquiao listens to him and stays away from politics for good.

The Pilipino people’s wish came true! I hope he finally realizes that he was just being exploited by the “Politiko’s” in Manila.
