I hope you were able to watch the Dream Match between (mismatched) Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya last night. Though de la Hoya was the best fighter of his generation, he couldn’t stand up to Pacquiao’s speed and power. It’s Manny’s time. He is now being hailed as the best fighter in the world.

Pacqiao- de la Hoya: The winning round and post interviews

Round by round, the Philippines’ very own Manny Pacquiao was the better fighter! He was knocking Oscar de la Hoya left and right, and the Golden Boy did everything he can to fight back, but he was no match.
The eighth round was too much, and de la Hoya’s doctor asks the fighter if he wants to continue "he’s too fast!", and de la Hoya backs out.
Manny goes back to his corner and kneels down, overcome by emotion. "The pride of the Philippines holds his gloves aloft." (Here is a fan-made video of the fight, in lieu of the …read more

Open Mic: Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar de la Hoya

This is it folks! This is the biggest night in Manny Pacquiao’s career! I hope you are ready to cheer him on, wherever you are!
I’m just hanging around, waiting for some family and friends to show up to watch the match with. First, we’ll have our homestyle Christmas caroling, for a good cause. We can’t sing carols out in the street cause it’s just too cold for that! Then, the undercard matches (three of them, I think) before the big fight of the night.
I can’t imagine how exciting the atmosphere must be in Las Vegas! Any chance any of you …read more

Speculations on the Pacquiao-de la Hoya bout

Speculations on the Pacquiao-de la Hoya bout

It’s touted the biggest fight in boxing. Tonight, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Oscar "Golden Boy" de la Hoya will prove who is the best fighter in the welterweight division.
Filipinos want Pacquiao to win, of course, so much so that Nike sponsored a website for "online prayer offerings" in behalf of Pacquiao, something that Cornholiogogs writes is more like like god-worship. Actually, even without that depiction, Filipinos already hero-worship the fighter.
The favorite to win is de la Hoya. USAToday believes Pacquiao will not be an easy fight for de la Hoya. Recah Trinidad speculates that a win by points …read more

Street caroling, Philippine style

Street caroling, Philippine style

Street caroling in the Philippines is a little like the US’ Halloween trick or treat, where kids stand in front of some random doorstep and wait for candy. Except they don’t say "trick or treat", they just start singing Christmas songs.
The singers come in all shapes and sizes, age and styles. They belt out a few Christmas carols and then linger around until the homeowner comes out with money. I really don’t know why we give money; it’s just part of the spirit of giving.
Anyone can do caroling too. One doesn’t have to be a good singer …read more

Survivor Philippines Episode 58 (12-3-08): The Fire and Water Challenge

After an emotional farewell by Zita from Survivor Philippines, the rest of the Chalam tribe go into a new reward challenge.
Host Paolo Bediones described the challenge as a physical test that would also require them to show their knowledge of island life.
The first part of the challenge had a rope course that the castaways had to cross using two wooden planks. Next was fire and water see-saw station. On one end was a can where they had to make a fire. On the other end was another can which they had to fill with water to raise the can …read more

Manny Pacquiao is Ready in Las Vegas

Manny Pacquiao is ready for the fight of his career. His American trainer Freddy Roach has predicted not only that PacMan will win the Dream Match against Oscar de la Hoya, but also that it will be by knock out in nine rounds.

Oscar de la Hoya and Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 3, 2008.
Roach described part of their strategy as follows:
“If we fight the way we fight, we will break his body down, I think we can get him; I really do. Oscar is in great shape I know it. But he’s weak in the body. …read more
