Flood-prone… rice

Flood-prone… rice

Flooding is not unusual in the Philippines. From the streets of Manila to the country fields, it’s not uncommon to wade in knee-deep water to get to where you’re going.
But have you seen rice that actually grows with the floods? Check this out – researchers from my old employment – the International Rice Research Institute at Los Banos – are inspecting some varieties of rice. Well, if that’s NOT interesting enough, perhaps the person outside the boat, who has to swim to make sure his rice field is doing well.

Tornadoes hit my town in Laguna, eyewitness videos!!!

Tornadoes hit my town in Laguna, eyewitness videos!!!

It’s the first time ever in the history of Laguna! Eyewitnesses have videos of three tornadoes forming in Los Banos, Laguna, happening right above them!
WAIT, THAT’S MY TOWN! My first thoughts watching the videos are … “OMG it’s going to land! RUN!”
But no one is running! Instead, people are fascinated, even laughing that such a thing is happening, and happily taking videos…
Here is a video taken over IRRI, where the twister clearly shows its formation.

Here is another video of a tornado, and people are watching the twister right above them!
