Hannah Masuhud, one of the readers of Filipina Soul, wanted to know more about CALABARZON, and I thought, ‘yeah I can help her with that, easy enough, I live in the area.’ Well, apparently there are a few things that I don’t know about this new region.
CALABARZON is a portmanteau of five provinces: Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. Traditionally, these five provinces were part of Region IV, but an executive order (No. 246) in 2002/2003 split the region into two: CALABARZON and MIMARO (Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon).

Tornadoes hit my town in Laguna, eyewitness videos!!!

It’s the first time ever in the history of Laguna! Eyewitnesses have videos of three tornadoes forming in Los Banos, Laguna, happening right above them!
WAIT, THAT’S MY TOWN! My first thoughts watching the videos are … “OMG it’s going to land! RUN!”
But no one is running! Instead, people are fascinated, even laughing that such a thing is happening, and happily taking videos…

In a segue to a previous post “Is that a Filipino on the phone?” and the great comments/conversation that followed, I thought I’d open another post on unexpectedly meeting another Filipino at a random place.
We live in the east coast, and before the influx of nurses and teachers, there were very few Filipinos roaming the streets. When we first moved here, we would be delighted if we find even a brown-skinned Asian/Malay-looking person, and immediately pose the question -
