Paris Cinema IFF to Honor the Philippines

This year’s Paris Cinema International Film Festival will have the Philippines as its “Country of Honour”. The event will be held on July 1-12, 2008.
After honouring South Korea in 2006 and Lebanon in 2007, the Paris Cinema IFF will pay a very special tribute to the Philippines: its new generation of film directors, and a cinematography filled with energy and audacity. Feature films, shorts, documentaries, videos, experimental works will be presented by many invited directors, producers, and artists.

Farewell, Rudy Fernandez

Filipino actor Rudy Fernandez died on Saturday, June 7, 2008, after fighting a rare form of cancer called periampullary cancer. He was 56.
The actor, fondly called “Daboy” in Philippine cinema, was diagnosed with the disease two years ago. He was being treated in the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, but went home five days before he died. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lorna Tolentino, and their sons, Rap and Renz, and his son with actress-politician Alma Moreno, actor Mark Anthony Fernandez.

Sharon Cuneta Stars in ‘Caregiver’

After four years, megastar Sharon Cuneta comes back to the big screen with the  Star Cinema movie, ‘Caregiver‘.
This is no ordinary movie. I can already see just from the trailer that this is a must-see movie. I don’t know of anyone who cannot relate to its subject. Don’t we all know someone who has worked or is working as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW)?

An independent Filipino film about a family running a prostitution business inside a movie theater is getting good reviews at the 61st Cannes International Film Festival in France. Brillante Mendoza’s “Serbis” is competing for a top award, the Palm d’Or for Feature Film, from the prestigious gathering. “Serbis” made its world premiere on May 18, the 5th day of the festival.
