  The French have discovered the Philippines!

For two years in a row now, the Philippines has played host to the reality show “Koh Lanta”, the French franchise of the American show “Survivor”. El Nido, Palawan was the site of the first season in 2006, and one year later the show’s producers went to Caramoan, Camarines Sur with a new batch of competitors. On the first morning on the island, the Jarakay Tribe was shown scrounging for materials to make their camp on the northeast end of Koh Tarutao.
The other pressing need of all the castaways was food. Jarakay gathered several mushrooms. Gigit and Marlon seem to be the in-tribe experts on edible mushrooms (though, it seems that they don’t agree on which are edible and which are not).
Tribe Naak was hard at work constructing their shelter and trying to start a fire.

Survivor Philippines has begun! The pilot episode was shown on September 15, 2008.
39 days in the wilderness. Who will be the first Pinoy Sole Survivor?
The first episode began with a boat ride to Koh Tarutao Islands, the site of the competition. Host Paolo Bediones welcomed the 18 castaways, and gave their first hurdle: the castaways had to jump off their boat and swim to the island. Only those who can reach the shore will be included in the competition.

On Monday, September 15, 2008, the Philippines will meet their very own group of castaways in the first-ever Survivor Philippines. Eighteen contenders will vie for the title of the first Pinoy Sole Survivor.

These nine men and nine women all look as though they were made for TV in this teaser clip. But they are really a very diverse group. Among them are a lingerie model, a labandera (laundry woman), a nanny, a taekwondo coach, a driver and a basketball player. The 18 castaways are:

That is the tagline of Survivor Philippines, which comes to primetime GMA 7 on September 15, 2008. The Philippine version of the hit reality show will closely follow the format that started in the U.S., including tribes, immunity challenges, and a tribal council. Host Paolo Bediones will take the role of Jeff Probst.

Eighteen castaways will compete to win 3 million pesos and the title of Sole Pinoy Survivor.

The Olympics have always been a big part of the Filipino TV viewing. It’s not uncommon for people to gather to watch the Opening Ceremony, the Closing, and several choice sports events. My family would follow the Olympics from start to finish, and hope for a glimpse of the Filipino athletes. More often than not, the TV camera would shoot them for a second at the Opening, and we barely made out the Philippine flag. But we still cheered for these national heroes.

“Survivor” that grueling reality television show from the USA, is finally coming to the Philippines!
GMA7 has acquired the rights to an international version of the game show, called SURVIVOR PHILIPPINES.
