The ‘Starstruck’ Way to Stardom
Last Sunday, my eyes almost crossed trying to keep the lids open just to finish watching the delayed telecast of Starstruck: The Final Judgment.
Starstruck (on it’s 3rd year) is the original “Artista” search in the Philippines that although a bit patterned from American Idol, has evolved into the biggest (this season, the only) nationwide search for new and young stars with pure pinoy’s flavor in a quest for a total entertainer.
What I love most about Startruck is that it put a stop to an era in Philippine show business where stars are either born into it or just happen to be a pretty-face-but-no-talent who knows the right people, or whose family knows key personalties in the biz.
Either that or one really has to fight/sleep-his/her-way around to stardom. Just imagine what one has to do and how many butts one has to both kick and kiss just to enter the world of show business? Much so in the Philippines where nepotism or the padrino system is very much in place especially in the country’s two dirtiest business: show business and politics.
Now, if only there’s a feasible way to clean-up our politics, then we’ll really be in business.
