Video: Panatang Makabayan (New Version)
The new version of the Panatang Makabayan (Philippine patriotic oath) retains many of the original lines. Some words have been changed, and it seems shorter in general.
I miss the last lines of the old version:

I didn’t know they changed Panatang Makabayan until a week ago, when my son, who’s in first grade, came home with a homework: to memorize the Philippine anthem, the ode to the flag, and the Panatang Makabayan. I was groping in the dark as well, but am happy to say I now can deliver the new version from memory! :)

Karla, we’re glad to help. Hey, you’re email says “maquiling” there is only one place that spells that name the way you do - Maquiling School Inc. at Los Banos. We’re from the place! Are you to, by any chance?

Hey, Grace! Sorry, it took me a long time to find my way back. Been quite busy. Hmm. My family is actually from Bacolod, but I know in Los Banos most people spell it Makiling. No relation though.
More power!

we live kin NYC and i was trying to teach my kids the panatang makabayan and learned that they changed it..why? it has been the same for hundreds of years and the older version was more poetic and sincere and patriotic..i am saddened by this..even more so with what’s happening in Mindanao..what is happening to our dear motherland?
